ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 14TH,2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Christmas is not a date. It is a state of mind.

Mary Ellen Chase

TODAY’S ACTION

Send some of your own love into the world. You don't have to buy it, box it, wrap it, tie it—just give love away.

TODAY’S QUOTE

If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator; If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist; If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist; If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer; But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.

HAPPY THURSDAY

Today is supposed to be another mild day – mid 50’s and it will be through the weekend. Next week it’ll cool back down in the 30’s just in time for snow for the Christmas weekend. I hope it isn’t much as my family will be traveling home for our Christmas feast on the 23rd.

If the weather does get bad, I hope they stay at home, I’d rather have them safe than trying to muster bad weather.

I didn’t get together with the dulcimer buddies last night as one of them was ill so we decided to celebrate Epiphany next month instead of Christmas this month. We’ll still have one last chance to play the Christmas carols we’ve been practicing.

I got out at lunch time at work yesterday and yes, the sun was shinning and yes I got the car washed. I’m sure it was thankful and it did seem to drive better on the way home last night.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…BUY A TREE DAY

The Pennyslvania Germans introduced the Christmas tree to America. The first mention of a decorated Christmas tree was a diary entry dated December 20, 1821 in Lancaster, Pennyslvania. Some people think the Christmas tree arrived with the Hessian soldiers paid to fight in the Revolutionary War, but if this is true, they kept the custom to themselves

TODAY’S SMILE

The Christmas Gift

A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present.

On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. "Is this your car, Mister?" he asked. Paul nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Christmas."

The boy was astounded. "You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? Boy, I wish..." He hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels. "I wish," the boy went on, "that I could be a brother like that."

Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, and then impulsively he added, "Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?" "Oh yes, I'd love that." After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, "Mister, would you mind driving in front on my house?"

Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Paul was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked.

He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car. "There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And some day I'm gonna give you one just like it... then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I've been trying to tell you about."

Paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. The shingled-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride.

That Christmas Eve, Paul learned what Jesus meant when he had said, "It's more blessed to give...."

 TODAY’S REFLECTION

You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.

Luke 2:12

The angel bypassed Jerusalem, the religious center of Israel. He didn't go to Herodium, Herod's villa near Bethlehem. He appeared instead to a band of shepherds tending their flocks. Back then no one thought God would be interested in shepherds, or that shepherds would be interested in God. But God spoke to them.

I think He knew that these shepherds, like so many people who appear indifferent to spiritual things, were quietly longing for God. All of us have a longing for something more.

The angel's words to the shepherds were simple and direct: "There is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord"

You can find Him too
