ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

DECEMBER 8TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.

TODAY’S ACTION

Create something beautiful with the intention of giving it away

TODAY’S QUOTE

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Charles Dickens

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Our Winter Storm is supposed to end this morning and I’m not very sorry to see it go. There were a lot of accidents on the roads because of icy and snow covered conditions around here yesterday. It seems that people forget they need to slow down in this weather.

One news report I heard said that 20 cars were involved in an accident and the road had to be closed. Wouldn’t you think people would be used to Ohio winters by now?

The dinner I was supposed to go to was cancelled and rescheduled to be a Saturday luncheon.

Oh I wish sometimes I was a bear, then I could hibernate all winter!

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

 TODAY IS…BAD HAIR DAY

Hat hair! Limp hair! A perm gone wrong!

Today is dedicated to everyone everywhere who has ever looked in the mirror and thought...

OH YUK!

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Winter Flowers Day.

Today is National Brownie Day

1907 Christmas seals were sold for the first time, to raise funds to fight tuberculosis. Today, Christmas seal income is used primarily in the fight against birth defects.

1949: One of America's classic Broadway plays, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," debuted. It began its long run at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City. Carol Channing starred in the musical and charmed audiences with the show's songs such as her trademark signature, "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend."

1953 - Los Angeles became the third largest city in the U.S. The City of Angels slid past Philadelphia for the distinction in a special census. Today L.A. is the second largest city in the U.S. and the 16th most populated city in the world. It just keeps on growing ... and growing...

THE COST OF THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

The cost of The Twelve Days of Christmas is on the rise — again. Buying each item in the song just once — from a partridge in a pear tree to a dozen drummers drumming — will cost you $18,920, or 3.1 percent more than last year, according to PNC Financial Services Group.

The total cost of items gifted by a True Love who repeats all of the song's verses costs more than ever before — $75,122 — for all 364 items, up from $72,608 in 2005, a 3.5 percent increase.

While prices for the partridge, two turtle doves, three French hens, six geese and seven swans remained the same as last year, higher wages made the lords a-leaping, ladies dancing and pipers piping costlier.

The nine ladies dancing earned $4,759, 4 percent more, according to Philadanco, the Philadelphia Dance Co. The lords a-leaping got a 3 percent pay raise, while the drummers drumming and pipers piping earned 3.4 percent more. But the maids a-milking were not as lucky. They make the federal minimum wage, which has been $5.15 per hour since 1997.

Each year, the Pittsburgh-based bank does a tongue-in-cheek tally of how much the swans, geese and drummers would cost if you purchased them at today's prices. PNC has been calculating the cost of Christmas since 1984.

The cheapest? As always, the partridge, still $15

SANTA UPDATE

Santa returned to the North Pole today with some tough news. All of his reindeer have the dreaded Bah Humbug Virus. The virus is not unknown to those of us who live here at the North Pole.

We have had to battle it for years. It is a nasty flu-like sickness that saps your Christmas spirit. You just don't want to do anything Christmasy when you have the bug. Although not a dangerous disease, it does take about 3 to 4 weeks for the symptoms to go away.

Santa did not say if this news means that Operation Merry Christmas is in any kind of trouble. He said we would just carry on with our work and that things will be ok. But don't worry. Santa will know how to handle this.

For now, be good, keep your cards and letters coming and do something nice for someone today. -- Elf Ernest

North Pole Weather: -4 degrees, heavy snow

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Simeon . . . was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel.

Luke 2:25

Many of us find ourselves waiting on God for an answer to a prayer or the fulfillment of a promise. His word comes to us, just as it did to those who were swept up in the events that marked the first Christmas:

“Do not be afraid, Zacharias” (1:13);

“Do not be afraid, Mary” (1:30);

“Do not be afraid, [shepherds]” (2:10).

As we listen to God in His Word and obey Him, we’ll discover His goodness and power as we wait. Time spent “waiting on God” is never wasted.
