ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

MARCH 9TH, 2006

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Something that has always puzzled me all my life is why, when I am in special need of help, the good deed is usually done by somebody on whom I have no claim.

William Feather

TODAY'S ACTION

Never think of failing.

TODAY'S QUOTE

I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.

Albert Einstein

HAPPY THURSDAY

I just want to say Thank You to all those that called, sang, sent cards and flowers or e-mailed me for my birthday. I had a wonderful day yesterday – full of surprises and nice thoughts!!!

The day started off with a telephone call at work and our Princess singing ‘Happy Birthday Grandma’ I got some nice flowers from the ‘Sunshine’ babes and I received gifts, calls and e-mails from many family and friends and just feel so thankful for all of you!

Now it’s back to ‘ordinary’ days again. Some days you just have to love those too!

Please say a little prayer for my mom – she goes for some testing today and for my dad who will have outpatient surgery on Monday and for my sister who is trying to help them out. She’s with them all week and the only day I can help is Saturday because of work.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS...POTATO CHIP DAY

American Indian, George Crum, made the first potato chips in 1853 while working as a chef in Saratoga Springs, NY. A hungry diner didn't like the thick French Fries and sent them back to the kitchen - twice! In exasperation, Crum sliced the fries too thin to eat with a fork - and potato chips were born

NOTE : Our local Thomasson Potato Chips have returned to the original recipe ! I tried a little bag yesterday for lunch and they were good ! Their link on the web: http://www.joneschips.com/HistoryOfPotatoChips.htm

TODAY'S TRIVIA

Barbie's Birthday - Barbie still looks good, even though she is now well over 50 years old

NEW WORLD DAY - Amerigo Vespucci , born March 9, 1451, was a merchant and an outfitter of ships, a job that introduced him to Christopher Columbus. Their stars would cross again in 1507 when a German mapmaker named the new continent on his maps, America. The mapmaker had not heard of Columbus’ discovery at the time. So Columbus got the credit for the discovery; but the discovery bore the name of Vespucci ... forever In reality, Vespucci had participated in two major expeditions between the years 1499 and 1502, to the coast of South America. There he discovered the Amazon and Plate Rivers. Vespucci thought he had discovered a new continent ... or a New World

1858: Albert Potts of Philadelphia patented the street letter box, an idea the Post Office liked very much

1873: Royal Canadian Mounted Police founded

TODAY'S SMILE

A road was closed to repair a collapsed sewer-pipe. The actual road closure was not apparent until a person drove around a bend, so drivers would go around the closure sign to see if the road was really impassable. Once they went around the bend, they'd have to turn around in the narrow road. Their embarrassment was made worse by the back of the "ROAD CLOSED" sign, which read: "TOLD YOU SO !

While waiting to board a plane in a small airport, the ticket agent made the following announcement on the paging system: "Would the person who dropped his pants please return to the ticket counter." After a slight pause, the same voice added, "The pants were on a hanger!

There once was an elephant who came down with a very serious cold. He was so stuffed up that he couldn't really breath through his trunk anymore. "No one has ever suffered as much as I," he moaned to himself. After he failed to get better for over a week, the elephant was sure that he was going to die. So he called all of his friends together for a farewell party, and he gave away all of his worldly possessions, in lieu of having a will. The next day, the elephant woke up in perfect health, and penniless.

The moral? Just because your trunk's packed doesn't mean you're ready to go

TODAY'S REFLECTION

For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king, it is he who will save us.

Isaiah 33:22

Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son.

John 5:22

John tells us that the Father "has entrusted all judgment to the Son," and Isaiah has prophesied that "it is he who will save us." Jesus will judge us with love and compassion, having lived in this dark world, experiencing the pain that can go with simple living. You needn't feel fear and anxiety, when you make mistakes in your life. Jesus is not only your judge, but also the one who made the supreme sacrifice in order to save you.
