HAPPY THURSDAY!

Summer is officially here today. I had a long 10 hour day at work yesterday as my #2 boss is on vacation til next Wednesday. My overtime will probably increase, but we’ll see….

I would like to ask for your prayers as my Dad has taken a turn for the worse. They have ordered him a hospital bed in the hopes that he will be more comfortable that way. My two sisters are caring for him. As I have to work, I’m not much help til the weekend. I can only visit awhile in the evening after work so that I can get home and get some sleep for work the next day.

I’ve been reminded once again that life is so short and we should never take one second of it for granted.

I had a great time with my dulcimer buddies last evening. It was so good to get together with them for a few SMILES.

For well over 25 years now we have enjoyed each others company and our dulcimers. It is a gift to be sure to have such good friends and I’m very thankful for them and for the many others that I have the privilege of calling a friend too.

My family and friends have helped to make me the person I am. Without their love, and encouragement, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Just in case you all don’t know it, you are ALL very special to me!

TODAY IS…PLAIN YOGURT DAY

Yogurt is an old, old food that's been around for centuries, but it didn't become popular in the U.S. until the 1980s. People now eat it for breakfast, lunch, snacks - or even as a frozen dessert. All yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, riboflavin (B2) and protein. It can also be low in calories and fat - just read the label.

CUCUMBER YOGURT SALAD

1 cup plain yogurt

2 large cucumbers

Fresh mint (to taste)

Optional Seasonings:

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

Salt and pepper

1. Peel cucumbers and cut in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Slice thinly.

2. Stir up the yogurt and spoon it into a mixing bowl. Add some chopped mint plus any other seasonings desired. Mix well. 3. Stir in the sliced cucumbers last.

Cover the bowl with saran wrap or foil. Chill for at least an hour before serving.

It was a hot one on Monday! At about 3 in the afternoon it was 93 degrees here. Everything was looking a little wilted…including me for sure.

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY!

Well I put on my ***BIG SMILE*** and went off to work as usual yesterday. By the time my work day ended however, my smile had decreased in size to almost non-existent. Not because something terrible happened, but because I didn’t want to open my mouth.

My front tooth broke off my partial plate again and now I have a big empty space there when I open my mouth. This is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened and I’m so embarrassed about it all.

I don’t know whether to try and have it fixed again or just find a new way of talking and smiling so that my empty space doesn’t show.

I did get a bit of good news via the mail.

The Newlyweds sent a package with a program I’ve needed for the computer and my JUNE bracelet. I’ve been somewhat lax in posting pictures of the monthly bracelet so one of these days soon I’m going to try and post them on my journal page for you all to see.

A big THANK YOU Newlyweds! I love the bracelet .

My theory on housework is, if the item doesn't multiply, smell, catch on fire or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one cares. Why should you?

Everyone is guilty at one time or another of throwing out questions that beg to be ignored, but mothers seem to have a market on the supply. "Do you want a spanking or do you want to go to bed?" Don't you want to save some of the pizza for your brother?" Wasn't there any change?"

The age of your children is a key factor in how quickly you are served in a restaurant. We once had a waiter in Canada who said, "Could I get you your check?" and we answered, "How about the menu first?"

When your mother asks, "Do you want a piece of advice?" it's a mere formality. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no. You're going to get it anyway.

The word bread refers to any food. The phrase “this day” indicates provision thatcame to them one day at a time. Many first-century workers were paid one day at a time, so a few days’ illness could spell tragedy. “Daily” could be translated “for the coming day.”

The prayer would read: “Give us today our bread for the coming day.” It was an urgent prayer to those who lived from hand to mouth.

Today's scripture warns us not to be "quickly provoked." It is when we allow our emotions to control us that we act too quickly. If we take time to pray about the hurt, we can overcome the desire for revenge or confrontation. We can think clearly about what has happened.

The Bible tells us how to deal with hurts: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head" (Romans 12:20). Self–discipline is very difficult, but with God's help, you can do it! Marriages fail because of hot heads and cold hearts. Jobs are lost because of anger. Children are abused because of anger. Prisoners are behind bars because of anger.

Over the Hump Day!

It’s payroll day at work today, so it will be a busy one. We are having a spell of beautiful sunny days here. I only wish I had more time to be outdoors. By the time I’m home in the evening and do a few needed things around the house I don’t get much fresh air and sunshine, but it is nice to look out the window and see it anyway.

The computer at work still has a few minor bugs to be worked out. Some of my data bases just won’t transfer right. Hopefully my #2 boss will get it figured out, so I don’t have to recreate them all. Nothing major, just a pain in the neck.

Our Sweet Peas are now blooming and I have a few little tiny rose buds coming out on the bush by the back door that my dear friend from Florida gave me a few years ago. It’s the only rose bush that has ever grown for me and it is just beautiful. Thank you once more my dear friend.

An expert tailor could sew 30 stitches a minute by hand. The first sewing machine, produced in 1830 in Lyon, France, could sew 200 stitches a minute. That machine only created a single thread stitch, but was still very impressive. The double-thread lock stitch was invented in Boston by both Isaac Singer and Elias Howe in the late 1840s. I received this in an e-mail yesterday and thought it was worth passing on.

 Most of you know John Wayne and Dr Robert Schuller. You may not know what happened to him before he died. This is that story!

Dr. Robert Schuller's teenage daughter, Cindy, was in a motorcycle accident and had to have her leg amputated. John Wayne was a big fan of Robert Schuller. He heard Dr. Schuller say on one of his programs that his daughter had been in an accident and had to have her leg amputated.

John Wayne wrote a note to her saying: Dear Cindy: Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you will be all right. Signed, John Wayne The note was delivered to her and she decided she wanted to write John Wayne a note in reply.

She wrote: Dear Mr. Wayne:

I got your note. Thanks for writing to me. I like you very much. I am going to be all right because Jesus is going to help me. Mr. Wayne, do you know Jesus? I sure hope you know Jesus, Mr. Wayne, because I cannot imagine Heaven being complete without John Wayne being there. I hope, if you don't know Jesus, that you will give your heart to Jesus right now. See you in Heaven. And she signed her name.

She had just put that letter in an envelope, sealed it, and written across the front of it "John Wayne" when a visitor came into her room to see her. He said to her: What are you doing?

She said: I just wrote a letter to John Wayne, but I don't know how to get it to him. He said: That's funny, I am going to have dinner with John Wayne tonight at the Newport Club down at Newport Beach. Give it to me and I will give it to him. She gave him the letter and he put it in his coat pocket.

There were twelve of them that night sitting around the table for dinner. They were laughing and cutting up and the guy happened to reach in his pocket and felt that letter and remembered.

John Wayne was seated at the end of the table and the guy took the letter out and said: Hey, Duke, I was in Schuller's daughter's room today and she wrote you a letter and wanted me to give it to you. Here it is.

They passed it down to John Wayne and he opened it. They kept on laughing and cutting up and someone happened to look down at John Wayne. He was crying.

One of them said: Hey, Duke, what is the matter? He said (and can't you hear him saying it), " I want to read you this letter." He read the letter. Then he began to weep.

He folded it, put it in his pocket, and he pointed to the man who delivered it to him and said: "You go tell that little girl that right now, in this restaurant, right here, John Wayne gives his heart to Jesus Christ and I will see her in heaven."

Three weeks later John Wayne died. You never know how your witness to another will effect their eternity!

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
