Finally, it got warm here. That is good news. However the weather doesn’t look real great for the Memorial Day weekend. Saturday and Sunday both have a chance of scattered showers. Hopefully the showers will scatter to places where people are not camping or barbequing out doors.

It should be a busy day at work as it’s payroll day and everyone else will be out of the office for most of the day. I’ll be doing my laundry after work this evening. My days are not real exciting, but they are busy.

Body painting is a decorative art that has been practiced down through the ages - starting with the Egyptian Pharoes who used henna to color the skin for cosmetic purposes.  One quarter while teaching an adult Sunday school class, Sam decided it was time to be up-to-date and innovative. He needed to try something new for his class. Sam found an overhead projector and, after deciding that was the greatest gadget he needed, tried to teach himself how to use it. Then Sam wrote an outline on an overhead transparency to display for the class.

When Sunday morning came, Sam had the projector all set up. At the right moment in the lesson, he flipped on the overhead. The beautiful outline flashed on the wall for all to see.

To emphasize a significant spiritual truth in the message, Sam grabbed one of the special markers, walked over and started writing in bold letters on the outline. The class burst out laughing.

"Why are they laughing?" Sam thought to himself. "This is the crucial point!" Then it hit him. He was writing on the wall.

It seems he'd been a little unclear on the overhead concept. The class wouldn't let him forget it. In fact, for many weeks they wouldn't allow him to remove his brilliant insight from the wall.

It was another chilly day here Monday, but the sun did manage to come out. Today we’ll much warmer they say. We’ll see…

Work was busy and the day went by fast. I even managed to get out at lunch time and made a trip to the craft store. I found some nice artificial flowers to replace the Easter ones I have in baskets inside the house. It’s about time to have something new.

This coming weekend is usually when we do some outdoor planting but this year I’m not sure where we would put anything else.

We have a few things that the birds have transplanted in the yard . My nextdoor sister pointed out a blooming Foxglove by the garage yesterday evening and there were sunflowers coming up in the crack along the driveway too . I love this time of year. There is always something new blooming . As one fades another takes it’s place.

Our azaleas are really beautiful this year and the rhododendron at my dad’s is full of blooms too! Really all that is needed in the flower beds is some weeding. Then they’ll look pretty good.

Another new week begins today, and we’ll be hoping we can make the best of each new day that comes our way !

I had a few calls from some of my ‘babes’ yesterday doing the weekly ‘check in’ and I saw a couple of them at church. Every one seems to be doing just fine and I’m always thankful to hear that good news.

Next weekend some will probably be doing some camping and some will be doing some barbequing I’m sure. It’s really hard to believe that Memorial Day weekend is almost here. As far as I know I’ll be at Dad’s as usual and maybe I’ll even clean the front porch off just in case I get some time to enjoy the swing.

JOGGING FOR EXERCISE

I’m only working half day today so I can go help out at Dad’s as he has a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. Then I’ll be spending most of Saturday and Sunday with him too. Work keeps me occupied during the week so I feel I should be there on the weekends.

It has been very cool here and I had to turn the furnace back on yesterday evening to take the chill off around here. By Sunday I think it will be up in the 70’s. We’ll see…

One afternoon, this guy drives down a highway to visit a nearby lake and relax. On his way to the lake, a guy dressed from head to toe in red standing on the side of the highway gestures for him to stop. The guy rolls down the window and says, "How can I help you?"

"I am the red jerk of the highway. You got something to eat?" With a smile on his face, the guy hands a sandwich to the guy in red and drives away.

Not even five minutes later, he comes across another guy. This guy is dressed fully in yellow, standing on the side of the road and waving for him to stop. A bit irritated, our guy stops, cranks down the window, and says, "What can I do for you?"

"I am the yellow jerk of the highway. You got something to drink?" Hardly managing to smile this time, he hands the guy a can of Coke and stomps on the pedal and takes off again.

In order to make it to the lakeside before sunset, he decides to go faster and not to stop no matter what. To his frustration, he sees another guy on the side of the road, this one dressed in blue and signaling for him to stop.

Reluctantly, our guy decides to stop one last time. He rolls down his window, and yells, "Let me guess. You're the blue jerk of the highway, and just what the heck do you wanna have?"

 "Driver's license and registration, please."

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

It was a chilly, wet, dark and dreary Wednesday, but today I think the sun will come through for us. It may take awhile, but eventually it’s supposed to shine.

It looks like our work is really going to start getting busy. There are lots of jobs coming in and that means more work for me. Hopefully I’ll be up to it all.

It seems my body and my mind is moving at a slower pace these days. The good Lord always provides and I’m sure he’ll give me the where-with-all to get it all done.

TODAY IS…Macaroons Day !

During the Roman days, cookies were like hard crackers. They had to dip them in wine to make them soft enough to eat. Over the centuries a raised biscuit cookie was made - still hard, but an improvement. Cookies as we know them today weren't developed until about 100 years ago - except for the macaroon. There are recipes for macaroons as far back as the 1600s.

4 egg whites 1

1/4 cups sugar

1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups flaked coconut

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease and flour cookie sheets, or line them with parchment paper and spray with vegetable oil. 2 In a medium bowl, beat egg whites, vanilla and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and whip to medium peaks. Toss together the flour, salt and coconut, then fold into the egg white mixture. 3 Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto the cookie sheets. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Cookies will be slightly golden. Allow to cool on the cookie sheets for easy removal

This psalmist was surely a positive thinker! He was able to hope because of his faith that God would protect and care for him. So instead of wasting time being afraid, he praised God. What a good example for us to follow.

When you face changes in your life, you don't have to face them with fear and anxiety. When you have hope, you begin to think clearly. When you praise God, you are expressing your faith in him and he will guide you through any change in your life. The change may not be what you had intended, but you will have the strength and courage to go forward with your life, seeing the opportunities for good that come with the change

Oh yes, I was in bed by 9 o’clock last night ! And I feel much better for it. I just can’t function well at all with out my sleep. It’ll be a busy day at work and that means the day will go by faster.

I’ve decided Wednesday is now my laundry day. It seems to work well that way. So that’s my excitement for the evening. It will be just an ‘ordinary’ day here.

Thank the good Lord for them!

TODAY IS…WEAR PURPLE DAY

Why was purple worn by royalty? Mainly because purple dyes were so hard to make. Using lichen, the plant had to react with ammonia (this meant urine in ancient days) and sit out in the air for 2 weeks. Then it was mixed with pot ash to be used as a dye. This was much harder than just boiling berries or leaves for other colors, so purple dye was only for the wealthy. Today, all you have to do is spill some grape kool-aid and everything turns purple.

A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule 'braying' - or - whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving.

Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened. . .and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery. Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back. . .a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back. . .HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP!

This he did, blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up. . .shake it off and step up. . .shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself.

No matter how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed the old mule fought "panic" and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP! You're right! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE WALL OF THAT WELL!

What seemed like it would bury him, actually blessed him. . .all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

THAT'S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity. . .THE ADVERSITIES THAT COME ALONG TO BURY US USUALLY HAVE WITHIN THEM THE POTENTIAL TO BENEFIT AND BLESS US!

Remember that FORGIVENESS - FAITH - PRAYER - PRAISE and HOPE. . .all are excellent ways to "SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP" out of the wells in which we find ourselves!
