 What a wonderful gift. In this season of gift-giving we are reminded of the continual gift of mercy the LORD offers to us. How unexpected! That is not the way we treat each other, yet that is the way we are treated by our God.

In a mere ten days we will celebrate the ultimate gift of God with us, Immanuel; wrapped in flesh, and insignificant, yet in the fullness of time the Savior of the world.

Advent offers us a time of reflection. A time to reflect on the gifts we have been given and what kind of gift we are to others. A time to reflect on our gratitude for the things we have, the people we have in our lives and the abilities God has given us, as well as our material gifts of food, shelter and security. God has given us these gifts for the service of God’s kingdom, not for our own gratification, power, or pride.

We are to consider the needs of others as well as our own. We should respect all people regardless of what they have or can do for us.

 Send a get well card to someone in the hospital. Pray for those affected by war.

Kindness, respect, tenderness .......... do these words describe you or how you treat other people? Remember today that honey is much better than vinegar. One kind word given with love is like a verbal hug

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!

We did not have anymore snow yesterday nor are we supposed to today, but Thursday will be a different story they say . Shovelable snow coming our way. The long range forrcast for Saturday still looks good. Cold but not snowy. I’m still praying for nice weather so that all the babes can come home safely.

 I’m finished with the gift wrapping, now I only have to finish up the cleaning and get the rest of the groceries and then all will be ready until I start cooking on Saturday morning.

Dinner isn’t until around 5 so I really don’t need to start anything very early. I finally feel like Christmas might just come to my house this year…for a while there I thought the ‘Grinch’ might put a hamper on things.

In this season of Advent we marvel in the fact that God chose to enter our experience and become one of us in order to redeem us from the naughty list. It is no accident, but a divine and loving plan. It doesn’t matter if you used to be on the naughty list or on the nice list. What matters is choosing each day to believe, to follow, and to accept God’s grace freely given.

Next time you go out shopping for Christmas presents buy a present for yourself. Wrap it and put it under the tree. You can put on the tag From A Friend.

Celebrate Santa Lucia Day on December 13. Re-enact the story of a young European girl persecuted for her faith in the Middle Ages. Cleaning and decorating for the Yule festivities should be finished by Lucy Day. It would likewise seem to be a good idea to set out porridge or pudding for those who accompany her, or set an extra place for them at the table as well as welcoming Lucy when she comes bearing gifts.

As usual I’m a day late and a dollar short on my TO DO List.

I made a list of what I need to finish and am posting it on my journal page. Hopefully this will help me get it all done by Saturday!

I did get my packages ready to mail off to the babes out of state, hopefully they’ ll have their gifts to open along with the rest of us on Saturday !

I’ll be charging the batteries for my camera in anticipation of lots of good pictures to share.

Our week begins with "Gaudete Sunday." Gaudete means "rejoice" in Latin. The spirit of joy that begins this week comes from the words of Paul, "The Lord is near." This joyful spirit is marked by the third candle of our Advent wreath, which is rose colored

Each night this week we want to pause in gratitude. Whatever the day has brought, no matter how busy it has been, we can stop, before we fall asleep, to give thanks

Lord, our God, we praise You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, for He is Emmanuel, the Hope of all people. He is the Wisdom that teaches and guides us. He is the Savior of us all.

I’m off to church for my weekly R & R. I hope you are taking the time to bless your spirit today too!

The house is 50% clean and 100% decorated, a little of the wrapping is done and I’m on the way to being ready for our CELEBRATION with family next Saturday.

 During the week, I will be picking up a few things for our feast AND checking my list twice - going to find out who's naughty or nice.. I’m looking forward to being able to visit with everyone once more.

 Please remember to keep our Troops in your prayers. And DS#4 will be traveling this week for business, so please say a little prayer that he will have a safe trip too.

It is time for us, during this Advent season, to open ourselves to the often subtle ways that Jesus seeks to come into our lives. If we expect the coming of the Lord to be heralded with lightning bolts and thunder, we will most likely be disappointed. Yet, when we pray to encounter Christ a little more each day, and open ourselves to new ways that He can use to speak to us, we will not be disappointed

This year you can start a Christmas Memory Book. Maybe even a Christmas Video. Take pictures and save the Christmas Cards. Write about the holiday and your feelings. Who came to visit? What was an unexpected blessing? The possibilities are endless

Poinsettias are native to Mexico and some call them Flowers of the Holy Night There is a legend about a poor Mexican girl, Pepita, who was sad because she had no gift good enough to bring to the Christ child. Her friend, Pedro, told her, Even the most humble gift, if given in love, will be acceptable in his eyes.  Pepita went into the field and gathered a handful of weeds. But she felt even sadder when she looked at her bouquet. She was embarrassed to take them to the church. Then she remembered Pedro's kind words and thought how much she loved Jesus. As she laid her gift before the Nativity scene, the bouquet suddenly turned into brilliant red flowers -- joy and thankfulness filled her heart

 When we see the poinsettias during Christmas season, this little story can remind us of the importance of God's love shining through our lives, brightening the lives of others

ADVENT

Advent calls us to prepare the way of the Lord, to open our hearts to the work of God among us. Yet there are so many things competing! And as Christmas approaches, things won’t get any lighter.

Stop and consider: How can I be sure that I am preparing the way of the Lord today?

Make a wrapping station for the presents in your home. You can put all the supplies in a Christmas Basket and leave it under the Christmas tree. That way you will always know where the tape and scissors are. Be creative.

Add little gifts on top of the presents, maybe a matchbox car, along with bows and bells and ............... well be creative and you will be surprised to see what you can come up with.

The snow storm that came in last night is supposed to be over this morning. They predicted 4-6 inches. This evening I’ll be finishing up the decorating and tomorrow is cleaning and wrapping day.

Sunday I should be able to sit down and make my grocery list and take a deep breath.

Next Saturday the 17th is our family Christmas celebration and I hope the snow will hold off so that everyone will be able to travel safely.
