Rules for cats who have a house to run...

I. DOORS: Do not allow closed doors in any room. To get door opened, stand on hind legs and hammer with forepaws. Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it. After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in and out and think about several things. This is particularly important during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season. Swinging doors are to be avoided at all costs.

 II. CHAIRS AND RUGS: If you have to throw up, get to a chair quickly. If you cannot manage in time, get to an Oriental rug. If there is no Oriental rug, shag is good. When throwing up on the carpet, make sure you back up so that it is as long as the human's bare foot.

 III. BATHROOMS: Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to do anything -- just sit and stare.

IV. HAMPERING: If one of your humans is engaged in some close activity and the other is idle, stay with the busy one. This is called "helping", otherwise known as "hampering".

Following are the rules for "hampering":

a) When supervising cooking, sit just behind the left heel of the cook. You cannot be seen and thereby stand a better chance of being stepped on and then picked up and comforted.

b) For book readers, get in close under the chin, between eyes and book, nless you can lie across the book itself.

c) For knitting projects or paperwork, lie on the work in the most appropriate manner so as to obscure as much of the work or at least the most important part. Pretend to doze, but every so often reach out and slap the pencil or knitting needles. The worker may try to distract you; ignore it.Remember, the aim is to hamper work. Embroidery and needlepoint projects make great hammocks in spite of what the humans may tell you.

d) For people paying bills (monthly activity) or working on income taxes or Christmas cards (annual activity), keep in mind the aim -- to hamper! First, sit on the paper being worked on. When dislodged, watch sadly from the side of the table. When activity proceeds nicely, roll around on the papers, scattering them to the best of your ability. After being removed for the second time, push pens, pencils, and erasers off the table, one at a time.

e) When a human is holding the newspaper in front of him/her, be sure to jump on the back of the paper. They love to jump.

V. WALKING: As often as possible, dart quickly and as close as possible in front of the human, especially: on stairs, when they have something in their arms, in the dark, and when they first get up in the morning. This will help their coordination skills.

VI. BEDTIME: Always sleep on the human at night so s/he cannot move around Being a cat owner, I find that my two follow the rules very well There are two ways to be rich — make more or need less.

In the midst of weary news, whether worldwide, national, local, or personal, take a deep breath. Relax your mind and heart and breathe. Breath in the love and kindness and graciousness of God. Why not just try to stay in and warm your heart today along with your body. We all have different ways to warm our heart. A sweat suit or cozy sweater will warm your body. Even making a nice warm fire in the fireplace sounds appealing (I don't have a fireplace). You decide today what will bless and warm your heart

The middle of the week and it's been a cold one.  Seven degrees predicted for last night. I think my furnace is on overtime, and you know what that costs! 

I had a call from DS#1 on Monday evening and they were enjoying the warm weather on their vacation at Disney !  The a/c in their hotel room was running !  I'm not sure which I'd rather have.  The nice in between days where we need nothing to keep us comfortable are far and few to be had.

The word yet in the above passage makes it clear there is a desired end. Without it hope would not be introduced. It would then be hope as the world gives a hope unfounded. There is no assurance.

 Hope without a destiny is not Biblical hope. Let God have His full development of hope in the soil of your heart.

St Nicholas was a Christian priest, born in 280 AD, in Tukey. He was a wealthy man and traveled the country helping people, giving gifts of money and presents. His gifts were given late at night so his identity would remain secret.

He was eventually named the patron saint of children. The name Santa Claus was derived from the Dutch "Sinter Klass" pronunciation of St Nicholas. Early Dutch settlers in New York brought their traditions of St Nicholas.

As children from other countries tried to pronunce Sinter Klass, this soon became Santa Klass, which was settled as Santa Claus

 Each morning this week, if even for that brief moment at the side of our beds, we want to light a second inner candle. We want to let it represent "a bit more hope." Perhaps we can pause, breathe deeply and say, Lord, I place my trust in you.

Make a list of what you would do if time and money were no object. I think your answers will probably surprise you. This is more difficult than it appears. We tend to want to bless others and totally forget what makes us happy or what we like.

Start looking for individual favors for the Christmas dinner table. Whether your dinner will be for just family or company, it still adds a lovely touch. Everyone will have a momento of Christmas this year. You might consider adding a loop and putting the year on them and that way they can be ornaments on the tree for next year. Make this a new holiday tradition

What a fast weekend ! Back to work today and it’ll will be a busy day as I left a pile on my desk Friday. I hardly ever get behind, but today I’ll play catch up!

My house is halfway ready???maybe only a third , my cards are addressed, but still need stamps and the tree is in the corner, partially decorated. No presents are wrapped, and I have this week and next weekend to finish!

We are preparing to be prepared for Christmas these days of Advent. This Second Sunday of Advent we pray for a listening heart to hear the words of comfort and call. We pray for a stillness around us a letting go of production, achievement, and self-validating efficiency

A Candymaker in Indiana wanted to make a candy that would help us remember who Christmas is really about. So he made a Christmas Candy Cane.

He incorporated several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ. He began with a stick of pure white, hard candy. White to symbolize the virgin birth and sinless nature of Jesus.

Hard candy to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church, and firmness of the promises of God. The candymaker made the candy in the form of a "J" to represent the name of Jesus. It also represented the staff of the "Good Shepherd".

The candymaker then included red stripes. He used three small stripes and a large red stripe to represent the suffering Christ endured at the end of his life.

The candy became known as a Candy Cane - a decoration seen at Christmas time. The meaning has faded, but still gives joy to children young and old, whom Jesus loves and treasures.

Make special place cards for your Christmas table. You can use cookies with names iced on them or let the children make it a craft activity. You might be surprised what they come up with

Christmas is just around the corner so here are some gift ideas for those special men in your life! Buying gifts for men is not nearly as complicated as it is for women. Follow these rules and you should have no problems.

Rule #1: When in doubt - buy him a cordless drill. It does not matter if he already has one. I have a friend who owns 17 and he has yet to complain. As a man, you can never have too many cordless drills. No one knows why.

Rule #2: If you cannot afford a cordless drill, buy him anything with the word ratchet or socket in it. Men love saying those two words. "Hey George, can I borrow your ratchet?" "OK. Bye-the-way, are you through with my 3/8-inch socket yet?" Again, no one knows why.

Rule #3: If you are really, really broke, buy him anything for his car. A 99-cent ice scraper, a small bottle of deicer or something to hang from his rear view mirror. Men love gifts for their cars. No one knows why.

Rule #4: Do not buy men socks. Do not buy men ties. And never buy men bathrobes. Iwas told that if God had wanted men to wear bathrobes, he wouldn't have invented Jockey shorts.

Rule #5: You can buy men new remote controls to replace the ones they have worn out. If you have a lot of money buy your man a big-screen TV with the little picture in the corner. Watch him go wild as he flips, and flips, and flips.

(NAPA Auto Parts and Sear's Clearance Centers are also excellent men's stores. It doesn't matter if he doesn't know what it is. "From NAPA Auto, eh? Must be something I need. Hey! Isn't this a starter for a '68 Ford Fairlane? Wow! Thanks.

 Rule #10: Men enjoy danger. That's why they never cook - but they will barbecue. Get him a monster barbecue with a 100-pound propane tank. Tell him the gas line leaks. "Oh the thrill! The challenge! Who wants a hamburger?

Rule #11: Tickets to a football game are a smart gift. However, he will not appreciate tickets to "A Retrospective of 19th Century Quilts." everyone knows why.

Rule #12: Men love chainsaws. Never, ever, buy a man you love a chainsaw. If you don't know why - please refer to Rule #8 and what happens when he gets a label maker.

Rule #13: It's hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or an aluminum extension ladder. Never buy a real man a step ladder. It must be an extension ladder. No one knows why.

Rule #14: Rope. Men love rope. It takes us back to our cowboy origins, or at least The Boy Scouts. Nothing says love like a hundred feet of 3/8" manilla rope. No one knows why.

Why not make a string of popcorn for the Christmas tree. You could alternate cranberry with popcorn. Or how about the paper chains you made when you were a child. If you would prefer, you can put the food decorations on a tree in your backyard and watch the birds feast on it.

The Perfect Couple

Once upon a time, a perfect man and a perfect woman met. After the perfect courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Theirlife together was, of course, perfect.

One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple were driving their perfect car along a winding road, when they noticed someone at the side of the road in distress. Being the perfect couple, they stopped to help.

There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Not wanting to disappoint any children on Christmas Eve, the perfect couple loaded Santa and his toys into their vehicle. Soon they were driving along delivering the toys.

Unfortunately, driving conditions deteriorated and the perfect couple and Santa Clause had an accident. Only one of them survived the accident. Who was the survivor?
