HAPPY MONDAY!!

I feel so good this morning and I know it’s due to having a nice long weekend. During the work week I tend to not get enough sleep and then feel drug out, so maybe I can get to bed a little earlier from now on.

We are having a reprieve from winter for a few days and the snow is now history. I know it will be back, so I’ll just enjoy the few days we have.

The house looks like it's been turned upside down and I now have just 3 weeks to get it in order again. Our Christmas family get together will be the Saturday before the Christmas weekend. I guess it will happen whether I'm ready or not, but it would be a little more enjoyable, if I can get it all done.

Ok, who knows why they are called Land cameras? And, no, it's not because they don't work underwater. They are named after Edwin Land, the man who invented the process of instant photography.

 Edwin Herbert Land was an American inventor and industrialist born in Bridgeport, Conn. He became interested in POLARIZED LIGHT and invented a material to eliminate glare in 1932. This is now known by the trademark Polaroid. In 1937, he established the Polaroid Corp. to manufacture sunglasses, camera filters, and headlights. He developed a process for three-dimensional pictures in 1941, invented the polaroid camera in 1947 and introduced instant color photographs in 1963.

The first Sunday of Advent

I'll be putting my Advent Candles on the dining room table today getting some Christmas decorations out. I also need to start the Cards. I know some of my friends have put theirs in the mail already. There are always two cards that come the weekend after Thanksgiving. I can count on it.

Each year, for the beginning of Advent and in celebration of St. Nicholas Day I always send out little Advent calendars to all my family. This year due to circumstances beyond my control, they will not be going out, but I hope to add a little advent JOY into each of my newsletters !

THANKSGIVING FORECAST

Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.

 During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.

A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway.

During the evening, the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34F in the refrigerator.

 Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day.

We expect a warming trend where soup develops.

By early next week, eating pressure will be low as the only wish left will be the bone.

 

The only consolation you have in cooking for two days before Thanksgiving is that you usually don't have to cook for a week afterward
