HAPPY TUESDAY !!

We had another rare appearance of the sun yesterday and it warmed up to 22 degrees by the time evening came. Today is supposed to be ever a little warmer yet. I’m so glad as those bitter cold temps take a lot of me it seems.

Of course with a little warm also comes snow. We’ll see what happens, they say 1-3 inches. That won’t be too bad. Keep safe and warm all !

HAPPY MONDAY !!

It is a National Holiday for some. We won’t get mail and the banks will be closed. I however, am off to work as usual. I’ll never understand how this all works, but I only get 6 paid holidays off from work and those depend on whether or not Christmas and New Years fall on a weekend or not. Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day And Thanksgiving are four I know will be off for sure.

I talked with DS#1 on the phone yesterday evening and got the latest update on the Stroll that I’ll be doing next Saturday. Sign in begins at 9:30 they say and we start at 10:00. We are supposed to leave here about 8:00 so I’ll just be there in time (I hope).

DD and DS#5 were in church Sunday morning and all is good with them, we didn’t linger long after church as it was too cold to stand outside and talk. There is not much news from home to share, all is pretty quiet here.

In 1912, S.I. Russell patented an electric heating pad for tuberculosis patients. The small square of fabric with insolated heating coils was to meant to warm the chest and help them breathe. It sold for $150 - a staggering price at the time. People immediately wanted to make larger, bed-sized pads, but it wasn't until the 1930s that the first electric blanket was made. Why are things typed up but written down?

We had Cured Ham for Christmas dinner. We all wondered what illness it was cured of.

When our kids were younger and they got a little crazy, my wife used a nice, safe playpen. When they calmed down, she climbed out.

I'm a light eater. As soon as it's light, I start to eat.

I am often so occupied with my day-to-day business that I forget that Christ wants a close relationship with me. He wants me to find rest and peace in the assurance that he is near me in every experience, both big and small, each day.

Thankfully, I am learning to remember that Christ is with me when I wake up in the morning, when I go to sleep at night, and in the tasks I take care of during the day. He is present through the people I meet and through my family.

When I breathe a prayer, I am telling him that I want him close to me. Long and tedious prayers are not necessary. Withdrawing in silence and peace with Christ during a busy day can be difficult. So it is important for me to start every day with an open Bible and to give the day over to the Lord before the busyness begins.

Our promised colder air is on the way…by tonight we’ll be feeling an artic blast for sure. Tomorrow the full force will hit. Watching the news last evening they said that in Fargo, North Dakota they had 5 degrees and it was coming our way.

I heard from our ‘Sunshine Babes’ on Thursday and they even had snow. Hopefully I’ll have a picture of them soon. This is a rare thing for them, but every once in a while they do get it.l

 Life might be less complicated for all of us if we each received our own LEGO kit at birth. Yes, I realize there is a choking hazard for children under three. But when you are old enough, you can learn a lot from LEGOs. I have learned that:

Size doesn't matter. When stepped on in the dark, a 2X2 LEGO brick causes the same amount of pain as a 2X8 brick. All LEGO men are created equal (1.5625 inches tall). What they become is limited only by imagination.

Stress is an enemy of a peaceful life. It can raise our blood pressure and cause negative feelings such as anger, anxiety or fear. If these continue, they can actually make us physically ill.

If you are unable to make a change that will resolve the outside stress, you need to be able to change your attitude, so that the problems do not affect you so deeply. How do you do that? I believe we can learn something from today's scripture.

The disciples were stressed out by the danger of drowning in the storm and they turned to the Master. He was able to bring calm, but he questioned their lack of faith.

Prayerful living during the good times can give you the faith to turn yourstress over to the Lord and allow him to bring calm to your soul. I have found that he is utterly dependable and will never fail us.

I’m up and ready for a new day and very thankful for my nice warm home. I know there are people that have to work out in this cold, so I won’t be complaining. There are even people living out in the cold and for those I’ll be saying a little prayer today for sure.

I cannot begin to be thankful enough it seems. I really do have a lot of blessings in my life and when I try to count them, the list seems endless. It is definitely better to count your blessings and forget the bad stuff (like snow and cold).

Tomorrow evening is the only night I’ll have to leave the house after getting home from work this week and that is for the weekly Bible study.

I talked to 2 of my sons yesterday evening and both are doing well. DS#6 is happily training his new puppy (the vet seems to think she’s a mix of Springer Spaniel and Pointer) and he is keeping busy with his new home and of course his job too.

And DS#2 is going to be starting his new assignment soon and has gotten pretty well settled into his new home. I’m just glad he’s back in the states again, even though I have yet to see him. Lots of new things going on for both of them.

Father in your house there is room enough for everyone. We pray for those who live crowded into shanties with paper thin walls, corrugated iron roofs, no clean water, no electricity, no hope. We pray for families who are squeezed into one inadequate room; refugees in tents, cold in winter, hot in summer; young people in night shelters, lonely and apprehensive.

We pray for people who sleep rough in all weather. Father, this was not your intention. It is we who allow this to happen to your people. It is we who must arm ourselves with your courage, love and compassion, so that we can build the Kingdom of hope where people can live in dignity, comfort and security.

In your holy name Amen

 

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

The class of noisy boys in a German primary school was being punished by their teacher. They were assigned the problem of adding together all the numbers from 1 to 100. The boys settled down, scribbling busily on their slates - all but one.

This boy looked off into space for a few moments, then wrote something on his slate and turned it in. His was the only right answer. When the amazed teacher asked how he did it, the boy replied, "I thought there might be some short cut, and I found one:

 …I have noticed an elderly couple walking with slow, even steps. The wife is plump and has grey hair; the husband is getting bald and is about a head taller than she. What caught my attention is how they walk, his arm around her shoulders. He leans on her rather than a cane to keep his steps stable. While walking he gestures with his free hand, apparently entertaining his wife. I watch the couple and reflect on their long relationship as a picture of the enduring grace of God.

What I see is these two carrying each other in poor health and supporting each other with their love. God's grace is like that.

HAPPY SUNDAY !!

R & R day is here once more and I’m ready for it.

Yesterday, DD, her hubby and I went to two different Camper dealerships to follow up on what we saw at the RV Show we went to last weekend. They did find one that they really like and made an offer for it, we will find out on Monday if it is a deal or not.

After church today DD and I are going shopping to spend the gift cards that we got for Christmas. That should be fun as I always like spending time with my daughter.

The weather man says rain for this afternoon changing to snow over night with a possible accumulation of 2 inches. It could be a little tricky going back to work on Monday morning.

Next weekend is DS#6’s birthday as well as our ‘Princess’ birthday too. Both were born on the same day but 20 years apart. I hope to go visit him next Saturday (19th) and then the Saturday after that (26th) I will see our Princess at the Stroll for Epilepsy.

We do this every year in honor of our ‘Sweetheart’ who is now 5 and has had this illness since she was about 6 months old. This particular event benefits the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio. It will be the 2nd time I’ve done the Stroll and I hope to continue to do so as it does help. If you want to learn more here is a link to their website. http://www.epilepsy-ohio.org/

The next few weekends will be busy ones for sure. That is fine by me as time flies when you are having fun and January does tend to drag on a bit.

Our Pretty Lady is one of my ‘long distance’ grand’babes’ and I miss her very much. The nick name I chose to use for her suits her for sure. She is a little doll. Tiny and petite. I put the birthday gifts in the mail the other day so hopefully they’ll reach her on time. It’s so very difficult being so far away.

I got all those reports done at work yesterday, so today should be a quiet one. That means I can either do some data entry work or clean the office, or maybe a little bit of both. The great thing is it that it is FRIDAY!

Tomorrow afternoon we go looking at campers again !

Self-control is named in practically every list of virtues in the New Testament, but it is contrary to the spirit of our time. Citizens want lower taxes but not any loss of subsidies or services; thus the spectacle of a "what's-in-it-for-me" attitude dominates the political scene.

We lament the breakdown of the family and its terrible consequences for children; yet a philandering husband and father expects us to understand that he "couldn't help it" when he fell in love with someone new.

Ancient cities like Babylon or Jerusalem were protected from their enemies by fortified walls. One whose walls were broken down was a city inviting attack and plunder.
