HAPPY TUESDAY !!

Yesterday we went from the tropics to the rain forest temps here in Northern Ohio. It was very hot and steamy. The humidity always makes it seem hotter than it really is and we were really close to the 90’s I had the air conditioning on in my car on the way home and when I got out my glasses fogged up. I’ve never had that happen before.

Today will be more of the same with some rain included.

I was curled up on the corner of our plaid couch, seizing the early-morning silence to talk with God, when my son's warm body cuddling next to mine interrupted the conversation. I opened my eyes to greet Lukas with a hug.

"Mommy?" he whispered. "Are you talking to God?" "Yes, honey," I replied as I kissed his tousled hair, "I am." I closed my eyes to continue my prayer.

Soon, a curious voice interrupted, "Mom?"

"Yes, Lukas?" "Does God talk back?" My heart responded long before my mouth formed the words: "Yes, buddy, God talks back."

Lukas's blue eyes grew wide as he stammered, "But how do you know it's him?"

Help me, Lord, I prayed silently, attempting to formulate an answer. How could I explain recognizing God's voice when I was still discovering it for myself? . . .

The squeeze of a little hand reminded me my son was still waiting for an answer. "So how do you know it's God?" Lukas persisted.

"Remember when we were at that playground filled with lots of people and Daddy went to the parking lot to get the car?" I asked. "Uh-huh?"

"Could you see Daddy from where you sat on the swings?" "No."

"Well, how did you know it was Dad when he called your name and said it was time to go?"

"Mo-om," he said with a giggle and a hint of exasperation, "He's my daddy. I just know him!"

"You know what, buddy?" I replied. "That's how it is with God, too!"

BACK TO WORK !

Today is supposed to be one of the few sunny ones we’ll have all week. They say we’ll have a chance of showers Tuesday thru Saturday.

The week ahead is going to be a quiet one. The only thing on the calendar is DS#5’s birthday on the 9th. I haven’t heard if he has any plans for his special day, but I’ve got his gift wrapped and ready whenever I see him next. It seems that my family is always so busy; it’s difficult to get to see them even on their birthdays anymore.

After church yesterday I spent a quiet day with the critters. It was raining so it was a good day to stay in. I heard from DS#1 and DD and they were doing fine. No camping for either of them this past weekend. The weather wasn’t good and DD and her hubby went to visit some of his relatives for the weekend.

That’s the news from home as I know it.

Do you remember this nursery rhyme from your childhood? "May had a little lamb/its fleece was white as snow/and everywhere that Mary went/the lamb was sure to go." There really was a Mary and a little lamb.

Mary was Mary Sawyer of Sterling, Mass. According to Ruth Hopfmann of the Sterling Historical Society, the story of Mary and her lamb dates back to 1816 when Mary's lamb followed her to school one day. Mary hid the lamb under her desk. All went well until Mary was called to the front of the class for a recitation. The lamb again followed and was banished to a nearby shed until dismissal.

Visiting the school that day was young John Roulstone, who commemorated Mary's adventure in three verses. Fourteen years later, Sara Josepha Hale, a magazine editor, included Roulstone's poem in a booklet of poetry and added several verses of her own.

Fleece from the lamb, it is said, was used to knit two pairs of stockings. Those stockings were unraveled by Mary Sawyer herself in 1883 when, in a fund-raising project aimed at saving Boston's Old South Church, she sold cards wrapped with the yarn and telling the story of the verse.

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon dry mustard

1 teaspoon minced onion

1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon minced parsely

Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl. Serve as a dressing over your favorite lettuce salad.

Lots to do today! I got my laundry started last night so I’m halfway done with that. Today will be a little bit of this and that as I don’t have any thing major to do, but am whittling away at a lot of small things around the house. I also have to get out and do some grocery shopping so I’m sure the day will go by pretty fast.

Our weather promises to be pretty nice and only in the mid 80’s so maybe I’ll be able to get outside and do a few things too. I always have a long list and I’m usually lucky to half of it done.

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY !!

Life is so very precious and when it is lost, we mourn. My love, sympathy and prayers go out to the families of the bridge disaster in Minneapolis - and for all tragedies, accidents, health issues, and whatever other crisis you may be facing this day.

After a sizzling day yesterday, I’m afraid we only have another one to look forward to Well it is Summer so I guess that is what we get. The trouble is that I can’t stand the heat and have to stay in. After having spent most of the winter indoors, I’d like to be able to get outside and enjoy it.

I had the final fitting for my partial plates Thursday after work. In a couple of weeks I’ll have my new teeth. I still have the fillings and the cleaning to look forward to, but now I do have appointments for those.

After I get the teeth done, I’ll need to be getting my eyes checked. I’m afraid it’s time for that too. It’s always something for sure. My beagle is due for his shots too.

I owe , I owe, so it’s off to work I go…

We have another hot summer day coming our way. I hope you all are keeping cool and if you have to be out working in the sun, remember the sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.

You know I work in the a/c so I’m just fine for sure. There is no rain in our forecast until Sunday so we’ll be having a few more of these lovely sunny days ahead.

TODAY IS…WATERMELON DAY

Watermelon is part of the pumpkin, squash and gourd family. They originated in Africa - then spread to Egypt, India and China. When the French colonized America, they found Indians growing them in the Mississippi Valley. How they got the seeds is a mystery! The good news... only 40 calories per cup and lots of vitamin C!

WATERMELON ICE CUBES

Watermelon is great for hot days because it's 92% water. Freeze the juice in ice cube trays - add to lemonade, fruit punch or iced tea. It's a fun flavoring for your drink.

1. Put pieces of watermelon (no seeds) in a blender. Mix until smooth. 2. Pour it through a strainer and then into an ice tray. 3. Freeze until set.

The psalmist says that God's loving care has brought him more happiness than all of these. The psalmist is remembering all the times that God has worked in his life.

If you look back on your life, I'm sure that you remember times when you were discouraged and feeling helpless, and things happened in a way that brought you out of your troubles and into a feeling of satisfaction and happiness.

When you recognize these as signs of God's intervention on your part, you become more confident about the future. Life is filled with valleys of pain and sorrow. But when you trust God, he will fill you with the joy of the Lord, even in the most troublesome times. How blessed we are!
