HAPPY SATURDAY!

For the very first time in what seems like ages ago, I have no place I have to hurry off to this morning.  I can take some time to wake up slowly and enjoy the morning.

It could be that I'll actually do some 'house blessing' around here today.  Everything I had to run for got done on Friday on my vacation day.

Yes, I did get my SMILE back too !  They fixed my old partial and are making me a new one as they said the fix could only be temporary and would never last for any length of time.  I also have 3 cavities and need a good teeth cleaning, so I'll be going back again for 2 more appointments.  It will be so good to open my mouth again and not to have pull down my upper lip.

TODAY IS…PICK BLUEBERRIES DAY

Why are people eating so many blueberries? Because they rank the highest of all fruit and vegetables in anti-oxidants that fight aging. (Their powerhouse performance comes from the same substanace that makes them so blue.) They're also high in fiber, fat free and taste great.

GRANDMA’S BLUEBERRY PIE

1 8-inch pie shell

Pastry stick for top crust

1/4 cup sugar

1 15-oz can of blueberries in syrup

1 1/2 tablespoons flour

1 1/2 tablespoons butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

2. Drain the liquid from the can of blueberries into a medium saucepan. Mix the sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon together in a bowl. Add to the blueberry liquid. Heat, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth.

3. Stir in the butter until melted. Add the berries and mix gently. Pour into the unbaked pie shell and cover with a top crust.

4. Bake 30 minutes, or until well browned.

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY!

It’s Friday the 13th too ! Usually this is a lucky day for me, at least I don’t remember anything bad ever happening on the 13th.

I’m off to see the tooth repair people this morning. These are different people from my regular dentist. I figured there was no sense going back there as they hadn’t been able to fix it right before. We’ll see how the new guys do.

After the dentist, I’ll spend the day with my sisters working on things at Dad’s house. This is the main reason I took the day off. I feel bad that I’ve not been able to help anymore than I have. In some respects I’m probably more of a hindrance than a help, so they were probably blessed not to have had me around all week.

The big news of the day is that DD and her hubby are going to be buying Dad’s house. I know they are thrilled to be able to get it as they have always loved the place. It’s nice too that it is remaining in the family.

That’s the news from home for now.

Maybe this will be a lucky day??? 7 and 11 are supposed to be lucky numbers! In one of my Bible studies they talked about the number 7 being the perfect number…after all on the 7th day God took a rest and all was very good.

I don’t know the significance of the number 11.

We did not get any showers yesterday, but today is supposed to be much cooler. At one point the radio station I was listening to at work said it was 99 degrees here yesterday. Today will be upper 70’s. Thank the good Lord!

Anyway you look at it, the word "caviar" still means fish eggs. They are washed, and then processed with salt to preserve them until eaten. This is a gourmet treat that's delicious, nutritious and... expensive. Best served on toast points, they should be garnished with finely chopped onion, hard boiled eggs and dill or capers. Caviar is also good for preventing hangovers, but it's much cheaper to just drink some cod liver oil.

In response to this woman’s sincere trust, Jesus confirmed her physical healing and went one step further: “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you” (Matthew 9:22).

Jesus poured out spiritual healing as well. We have an omnipotent God who invites us to participate in his works through our faith. If we imitate Jesus by driving unbelief from our midst, we will find ourselves more open to his power.

We are still very toasty here. Dry and dryer is the word. We will be watering a lot trying to keep things growing for sure.

Monday was a very fast day with lots to do. Hopefully today will be a little quieter.

I got the ok to have Friday off work and have an appointment finally to either get my tooth fixed or have another partial made, which ever they think best. I’ll be so glad to have that tooth back!

The appointment is at 8 am Friday so then I’ll have the rest of the day to help my sisters with the work at my Dad’s house. Still lots to go through.

An elderly man in Florida had owned a large farm for several years. He had a pond in the back, fixed up nice, picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees. The pond was ideal for swimming, though he rarely did that any more.

It was a good weekend, so I’ll just be thankful for that and count my blessings. It has been terribly hot here and it will not be cooling down til after we have some showers that are predicted to come our way Weds. Or Thurs. this week.

After some help from DS#4 I managed to get my pictures of the campers on Saturday on line. If you click on my journal link Good Morning Sunshine you’ll find them below this morning’s entry.

TODAY IS…SUGAR COOKIE DAY

Sugar cookies are the most versatile dessert you'll ever bake. They can be cut into any shape. They can be frosted or left plain. They can be decorated to fit any holiday or just made for fun. The only problem is keeping them in the cookie jar because they disappear so fast!

SUGAR COOKIES

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 large egg

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon lemon extract (optional)

Frosting: 1

 cup confectioners (powdered) sugar

5-6 teaspoons water 1-2 drops

food coloring (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease cookie sheets. 2. In a large bowl, mix the butter, sugar, egg and lemon extract. 3. Stir in the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Divide the dough into two parts. Chill 1 - 2 hours so it will be easy to handle. 4. Roll half the dough out on a floured surface until it is 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Keep the other half chilled until ready to use. Place the cookies 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until no indentation remains when touched. 5.

To Frost: Blend the confectioners sugar and water in a small bowl. Add food coloring if desired. For a thin layer of frosting, brush on while the cookies are still warm. For a thicker frosting, let the cookies cool and frost with a knife.

DURING a time of intense conflict in my family, I cried out to the Lord, "Where did we go wrong? Didn't we go to church, read together, pray and play together, and do all the things that are supposed to bring and keep families together? Why can't we get along when we have you in our lives?"

 As I sought comfort in reading scripture, I realized that family conflict is not new. Abel died because of sibling rivalry. Jacob, encouraged by his mother, deceived his father and brother; Samson disobeyed his parents in his choice of a bride. Abraham lied about his wife in order to protect himself. These are just a few examples from the Bible.

Still, God worked in the history of the chosen people through these individuals. No, my family is not perfect; I no longer even seek perfection. Instead, we are learning to admit our failures. And we are quietly attempting to repair and restore our relationships by being honest and forgiving and by listening to and accepting one another, even when we disagree.

We don't have to be perfect for God to work in and through our lives.

The Israelites had been traveling long years in the wilderness and hoped to reach the Promised Land. This promise shows us how important God feels about children honoring their parents.

Jesus was "on loan" to his parents from God, just as our children are "on loan" to us. We are all God's children and he loves us very much. It is difficult to face that empty nest, when our children go out on their own, earn their own living and start their families.

But when we have taught them to trust a loving God, we can let them go and give them into their Father's care. When we heed God's command to always honor our own father and our mother, we are honoring our Father in heaven and we shall be blessed.
