HAPPY MONDAY BACK TO WORK !

Here we are another new day, another new week in which we get a chance to make the most of each day! I do look forward to each new morning and what the day may bring. I’m always hopeful that in someway it will be the best day ever.

The week ahead looks to be a quiet one on my calendar. The one high light will be on the 11th when our ‘Pretty Lady ‘ turns 5 years old. Of course she’s far away and I won’t be able to be with her, but I’ll be sending off a little gift to her in the mail.

DDIL#1’s Mom will be having hip surgery on Thursday too. I’ll be praying her and for the doctors doing the surgery and for a speedy recovery.

I had a great weekend and got my weekly dose of R & R so with the good Lord’s help I should be ready for anything coming my way today.

Mix 1 part any type of shampoo (use a "tear free" baby shampoo for kids) to 2 parts plain water. Shake well. The bubbles will settle into a nice bubble bath solution. Pour a little under running water as you fill the tub, and.... voile'! Your own bubbling bath!

On Epiphany I always do a house blessing here and thought I’d share it with you all today

It is an ancient custom for Christians to have their homes blessed in relation to the feast of Epiphany (Jan 6) which commemorates the coming of the Wise Men to the house of the Holy Family.

"On coming into the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh." (Matt 2:11)

The idea is to set apart your home as a place of Christian hospitality to all those who shall visit your home in the coming New Year, just as the Wise Men came to the house of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

By such an action you are saying, "May those who visit our home, also find Christ here in our midst."

Using chalk, I inscribe the horizontal frame above the door with the inscription shown below. The letters C M B come from the traditional (9th century) names for the "three kings"--Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.

Peace be to this house and: to all who dwell here, in the name of the Lord.

May the Lord watch over our going out and our coming in, from this time forth and forevermore.

Dear Friend:

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden.

I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time working.

Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.

I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom.

I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries.

I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now !!

I'm not sure what others would've done had they known they wouldn't be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles.

I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner or for whatever their favorite food was. I'm guessing; I'll never know. It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited.

Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them.

I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, tell myself that it is special.

Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God. !

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance !!

The journey of the wise men reminds us that those who are searching for something deeper will find God in their lives. God is waiting to be discovered in the places and people that we least expect God to be.

Yesterday it rained and rained some more here. Today we may still see a few showers, but in the long range forecast for next week it may change to snow. It is supposed to get colder anyway.

I’m going to try and get the decorations all put away today. If nothing else gets done I’ll be happy for that much. The very last thing to be put away will be the nativity set in honor of the Epiphany which is celebrated in our church tomorrow.

Just to let you know that some prayers were answered. My nephew went home from the hospital, they found nothing wrong with his appendix and they think he may have had a very bad flu virus. Also my Dad had a really good day and was feeling much better. Thank you for your prayers!

Thankfully the end of the week has come and I’ll be glad to have the weekend to catch up around home – mostly taking down decorations.

TODAY IS…TAKE THE CAKE DAY

"Take the Cake" means to win the prize, but where did this saying come from? It's an American expression that comes from the South where they had cakewalking contests. To "cakewalk" meant to strut your stuff, so the person who did the fanciest dance steps got to take home the cake.

MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE

1 cup butter

4 eggs

1 1/2 cup flour

3 1/2 cup coconut

2 cups sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1/3 cup cocoa

1 cup nuts

7 oz jar marshmallow cream

Frosting

1/2 cup melted butter

1/3 cup cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla

1 lb box powdered sugar

1/2 cup milk

1) Cream together the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add the rest of the ingredients except the marshmallow cream. Blend well. This batter will be stiff.

2) Pour into a greased and floured 9"x13" cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately spread jar of marshmallow cream over the top. Cool thoroughly.

3) Mix all of the frosting ingredients together. Frost the cake and place in the fridge.

NOTE: This cake must be stored in the refrigerator. Remove and cut right before serving.

When I am old I will wear soft gray sweatshirts and a bandana over my silver hair and I will spend my social security checks on wine and my dogs.

I will sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dogs' breathing. I will sneak out in the middle of a warm summer night and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow...

When people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs and talk of them and about them the ones so beloved of the past and the ones so beloved of today

I will still work hard cleaning after them, mopping and feeding them and whispering their names in a soft loving way.

I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat, like a jewel and I will be an embarrassment to all especially my family who have not yet found the peace in being free to have dogs as your best friends

These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet you as if you are a God. With warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that you will always stay, I'll hug their big strong necks I'll kiss their dear sweet heads and whisper in their very special company

I look in the Mirror and see I am getting old this is the kind of person I am and have always been. Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me. Please accept me for who I am.

My dogs appreciate my presence in their lives they love my presence in their lives

When I am old this will be important to me you will understand when you are old if you have dogs to love too.

I did manage to get the outside decorations taken down last evening. The sun was shining and today it’s supposed to rain so I took advantage of the nice weather.

I heard from DS#2 and he was safely home, thank the good Lord.

Please pray with me today for DS#2 and his family, for my next-door sister’s youngest son who had to go to the emergency room last evening for what seems to be appendicitis, and for my dad who is not doing very well at all.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday. Of course it would be since I went back to work. I shouldn’t complain though because our weather has been unusually mild for this time of year. I’m sure we are still in for freezing temps and ice and snow, but meanwhile I’m enjoying what we have while we have it.

DS#2 and family left for home as I was leaving for work Tuesday morning and this weather is good for them traveling too! He called yesterday evening to let me know they’d stopped for the night and were making good time as they were over half way home and they would be at their home today.

The rest of this week should be a pretty quiet one with nothing special on the calendar. Sounds like I’m back to normal for sure.

HAPPY TUESDAY

BACK TO WORK !

I go back to work this morning, and DS#2 and family are leaving for home today. It will be a long drive for them so please join me in a little prayer for a safe trip for them. This will only be the beginning of many more travels for them this year. New assignments with the military and new homes for them and the grand’babes’.

I am just so thankful that I was able to have this nice long visit with them.

 By next weekend the decorations will all be packed away and Christmas 2006 a memory. We all have a New Year to celebrate, to make the most of, to enjoy. New happenings are always exciting and something to look forward to.

I got this good advice from one my New Years Day devotionals

… If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans, but I think it is good to make plans and if one is praying and asking God for guidance than they really are not so much our plans but God's. At least one always hopes they are. One thing I have found out.. if they are not... God soon lets us know!

Humbly, fearfully, we sink on our knees, and slowly, in answer to our prayers, comes back something of the old faith of our childhood, and we rejoice that we are granted one more New Year's day on which to "begin again" -- not in our childish way, with utter disregard of the past, but trusting, patiently, knowing that we must ever carry with us our past, and rejoicing that, with God's help, we may make the future better because of the past.

Weather Forecast for those of you living in the Midwest and East, remember winter is still very new. It officially started on December 21st. Unfortunately, a potent El Nino usually means mild and wet weather in the East, and that's exactly what we've seen so far.

According to the Farmers' Almanac's long range outlook, winter will get here. I'd recommend that you keep your jackets and gloves handy. Mother Nature is clobbering the West, but as I see it, the cold, shivery conditions will move east as we move into February and March.

If you stop and think about it, there are lots of things money simply cannot do. It can't buy one more day for someone with a terminal illness. It can't put broken families back together. It can't bring back the people we love who have died. It can't stop bombs or buy world peace.

Money, and the things it can buy, is nice, but sometimes we get so wrapped up in having more that we forget to give thanks for having enough. The best gifts are the priceless memories that you make throughout the year. You know the ones I mean, the ones you freeze inside the picture album of your mind and then take out and re-examine from time to time.
