A good way to describe "the fear of the Lord" is to describe how a child feels toward good parents. The child loves and respects the parents and wants to please them. At the same time, that child comes to realize that obedience is a requirement, and fears the consequences of bad behavior.

God made it easy for us to know how to live by sending his only begotten Son to guide us through his life and his teaching. But when we allow our Bibles to gather dust on the shelf and try to face life's challenges by ourselves, we lack the high-quality understanding that brings peace and joy.

I can’t say enough wonderful words about my ‘new to me’ kitchen. I’ve got a spot for everything and it’s good to feel organized. The kitchen is, however, one of the few organized spaces I have here. Now I’ll have to work on the rest of the rooms.

I did manage to finally get the flannel sheets off my bed – I think the weather is warm enough now for regular ones. Thankfully the furnace hasn’t had to run for a few days now! And hopefully the air conditioner won’t be needed much this summer

I guess we are supposed to have a chance of rain today and we do need it. The farmers didn’t get enough in April so now they say we need an inch a week in May to catch up! We’ll see…

If Noah had lived in the United States last year, his story may have gone something like this:

The Lord spoke to Noah and said, "In one year, I am going to make it rain; and the rain shall not stop until it submerges the entire earth and all living flesh is destroyed. Because of this, I want you to save the righteous people and two of every living species on earth. Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark."

In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark. Daunted by this task, but respectful of God's wishes, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the ark. "Remember," said the Lord, "you must complete the Ark and fill it in one year's time."

 Exactly a year later, fierce storm clouds covered the earth; and all the seas of the earth went into a tumult. The Lord saw that Noah was sitting in his front yard weeping. "Noah!" he shouted. "Where is the Ark?"

"Lord, please forgive me," cried Noah. "I did my best, but there were big problems. First, I had to get a permit for construction, and your plans did not meet the building codes. I had to hire an engineering firm and redraw the plans. Then I got into a fight with OSHA over whether or not the Ark needed a sprinkler system and approved floatation devices.

"Then, my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission. Then, I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Spotted Owl. I finally convinced the U.S. Forest Service that I really needed the wood to save the owls. However, the Fish and Wildlife Service won't let me take the 2 owls.

"The carpenters formed a union and went on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Relations Board before anyone would pick up a saw or hammer. Now, I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no owls.

"When I started rounding up the other animals, an animal rights group sued me. They objected to me taking only two of each kind aboard. This suit is pending. "Meanwhile, the EPA notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the Universe that I got a notice from.

"Then, the Army Corps of Engineers demanded a map of the proposed flood plain. I sent them a globe. "Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that I am practicing discrimination by not taking atheists aboard.

"The IRS has seized my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying the state. And that I owe them some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a recreational water craft.

"And, finally, the ACLU got the courts to issue an injunction against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it's a religious event, and, therefore, unconstitutional.

"I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another five or six years." Noah remained silent. Moments later, the sky began to clear, the sun began to shine, and the seas began to calm. A rainbow arced across the sky. Noah looked up, shaking his head in dismay.

HAPPY SATURDAY

We worked in the kitchen until about 10 last night. We got some trim painted and holes filled in . Tomorrow we’ll finish up in no time.

The beagles are loving it…they’ve been moved to the living room and out of the kitchen. They claimed the couch right away and snuggled in for the night. I’ve been keeping them in the kitchen because I hate cleaning up all the dog hair.

Oh well , after tomorrow they’ll be back in the kitchen. But it will be a beautiful kitchen !

I hope this e-mail comes out all right…right now there all kinds of funny looking characters on my page that aren’t usually there. It said Microsoft word is now doing my e-mail editing???

TODAY IS QUILT LOVERS DAY

Quilting is sewing two layers of fabric together with filling in the middle. It originated in ancient times when people wore quilted garments for warmth and protection. HAPPY FRIDAY!

After work today Part 2 of the Kitchen Makeover will begin ! Another busy weekend. This time we won’t have so much help. Only DS#5 and his wife will be here to paint ! TODAY IS...ZUCCHINI BREAD DAY

 Zucchini is also called courgettes, marrows and summer squash. According to the National Gardening Association, it is not one of the top ten vegetables grown in home gardens (the tomato tops that list). This might be because when you plant zucchini, you end up with enough of the vegetable to feed a small army

Zucchini Bread

3 eggs

3/4 cup applesauce

1/4 cup oil

2 cups sugar 1

Tablespoon vanilla

1 cup whole-wheat flour

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/4 teaspoon ginger

2 cups zucchini, grated

1 cup nuts, chopped

 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2 large loaf pans 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the eggs, oil and applesauce. Add sugar and vanilla. 3. Add all of the dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in zucchini and nuts last. 4. Bake about 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before removing from pan. Freezes well.
