HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!

and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DS#1

May the dear Lord bless you today and always !

I often wonder how I can possibly have a son over 30, It seems like just yesterday he was small enough to hold in my arms. I actually have 6 babes now over 30 .Only the baby of the family is younger and not by much.

Time flies by so fast! I can only say if you still have children at home, enjoy them. Before you know it they are grown up and gone.

Our fair weather continues today and later on this evening a cool front is supposed to be coming in. So we’ll go down in the 70’s for a couple of days. I don’t mind that at all !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…LEMON JUICE DAY

Lemons originated in Southeast Asia and spread westward to India and the Mediterranean. Columbus brought the first seeds to the New World in 1493. Nobody knows when they got to the US, but lemons were growing in Florida in 1579. Of all the citrus fruits, lemons are the most detoxifying.

LEMON VELVET CAKE

1/2 teaspoon. lemon extract

1 (3 oz) box lemon jello

3/4 cup corn oil

3 eggs

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup lemon juice

grated rind of 1 lemon

1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cake mix, water, lemon extract, jello, oil and eggs for at least 3 minutes. 2. Bake the cake in a 9 x 13 pan according to the package directions. When the cake is done, remove from the oven. Take a fork and prick the entire top of the cake. Make the holes about 1 inch apart and as deep as you can go without tearing the cake. 3. Mix the powdered sugar, lemon juice and grated rind in a medium bowl. Pour this mixture over the top of the cake while it's still warm.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Psalm 27:10

Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected from, and alienated towards, other people." Oddly enough, one can feel loneliness in a large city, surrounded by crowds of people.

It is totally different from being alone, for sometimes you are alone by choice, and it can be pleasant. Loneliness is when you are alone and unwilling to be so.

It is important that we learn to cope with periods of being alone. Today's scripture gives us a good answer. It reminds us that no relationship on earth is secure

David probably wrote Psalm 27, from which we read today's scripture. David was feeling alone and deserted by everyone, but he began the Psalm "The Lord is my light and my salvation —— whom shall I fear?"

He ended the Psalm by saying three things.

1. Wait for the Lord. The Lord will always be with you.

2. Be strong. Do your part by trusting God with strong faith.

3. Take heart. Expect good things to happen.

HAPPY MONDAY !!

This is moving day for DD and her hubby. They have worked really hard to get everything ready and I know they’ll be so happy to be in their new home. Yesterday evening they took a break and picked me up and we went out to the county fair for some good fair food. The weather turned out to be really nice and we visited briefly with DS#5

After work today I have to go back to the dentist for a re-make appointment. I don’t know why they have to see me again for this as I would think they could use the same info they had for the first time, who knows???

The ‘Newlyweds’ have their house inspection tomorrow for the new home they are trying to buy so we’ll be praying everything goes ok for them.

Busy back to school day for lots of my family today too. I hope everyone has a good school year !

Take good care all !

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

TODAY IS…BANANA LOVERS DAY

Banana plants are grown in just about every tropical place - and make up the 4th largest fruit crop in the world. A plant needs 10 - 15 months of frost-free conditions to produce a flower stalk. Most varieties will stop growing when the temperature drops below 60° F of above 100°. High in potassium, bananas are easy to eat and are a great additional to any meal.

BANANA PIZZA

8 frozen dinner rolls, thawed

2/3 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1/3 cup chopped pecans

2 cups banana cream pudding

4-6 bananas, sliced

1 cup whipped topping (optional)

1. Spray a 12" pizza pan with non-stick cooking spray. Press the rolls together and form the dough into a crust in the pan. Turn up the edges to make a ridge. Let the dough rise for 10 minutes. 2. Cream the butter and brown sugar together in a mixing bowl. Stir in the pecans. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over your pizza dough. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely. 3. Arrange the sliced bananas on top of the crust. Spoon the banana pudding over the sliced bananas. Top with the whipped topping.

(Although I haven’t tried this recipe, it does sound delicious and I’ll have to try it out soon)

TODAY’S SMILE

Let me tell you a story I once heard speaker Les Brown relate. A particular man played piano in a bar. He was a good piano player. People came out just to hear him play. But one night, a patron told him he didn't want to hear him just play anymore. He wanted him to sing a song.

The man said, "I don't sing." But the customer was persistent. He told the bartender, "I'm tired of listening to the piano. I want that guy to sing!" The bartender shouted across the room, "Hey buddy! If you want to get paid, sing a song.

The patrons are asking you to sing!" So he did. He sang a song. A piano player who had never sung in public did so for the very first time. And nobody had ever heard the song, "Mona Lisa" sung the way it was sung that night by Nat King Cole!

He had talent he was sitting on! He may have lived the rest of his life as a no-name piano player in a no-name bar, but because he HAD to sing, he went on to become one of the best-known entertainers in America.

You, too, have skills and abilities. You may not feel as if your "talent" is particularly great, but it may be better than you think! And with persistence, most skills can be improved. Besides, you may as well have no ability at all if you sit on whatever talent you possess!

The better question is not, "What ability do I have that is useful?" It is rather, "How will I use whatever ability I have?"

Likewise, when I reflect on the faithfulness of Jesus, who never waivered in his total commitment, I am drawn into greater generosity. Keeping my gaze on Jesus also helps me bridge those discouraging moments and strengthens my resolve to persevere as he did.

Soybeans are the only bean that contain the same proteins as meat - plus immune system builders. Originating in China, it was a staple food crop in the Far East for thousands of years. Introduced to the US in the early 1800s, it is now a leading crop right behind corn and wheat. Cooked Soybeans can be substituted for diced meat in any recipe - if you can get used to the taste.

The Law of the Garbage Truck.

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you.

When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personal. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happy you did. I guarantee it.

I have begun to see "Garbage Trucks." I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present and at their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let “Garbage Trucks” take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more “Garbage Trucks” pass you by?

I believe that you'll be happier. I guarantee it.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, 'I have no pleasure in them' Ecclesiastes 12:1

The writer of today's scripture had a very pessimistic view of old-age . I have known those in their middle years who are older than some who have reached their 80s.

These happy octogenarians have never lost their love of life. They still expect good things to happen. Their minds stay active, and even though they may not hear as well, see as well or move as well, they do as much as they are able and enjoy it.

When you have faith in God's loving care, there is no room for doubt, fear and despair. Your hope is in the Lord and your confidence is high because you know he has given you the power and the sound mind to tackle any difficulty.

So have the courage to be a cock-eyed optimist, knowing that God is always with you, ready to supply your needs.

HAPPY THURSDAY !!

Summer isn’t over yet. After a couple of cooler days and rain, we were back to the steamy days of August yesterday. Those that had hoped to dry out because the rain stopped for a day , didn’t get their wish, at least if they were outside.

It was supposed to have been in the high 80’s, but the humidity we had made it seem much warmer. If you moved at all outside you were dripping for sure.

We still have that chance of rain and thunderstorms for the rest of the week. By Sunday it may clear up.

This evening after work I get my new teeth. Won’t you be glad when I don’t have that to talk about any longer !

Lots of children and teachers were back to school today. I saw those school buses out on the roads going to work this morning !

TODAY IS…HAIR DYE DAY

People have been dying their hair for 3000 years, but the first commercial hair dye company wasn't started until 1909 in France. The "French Harmless Hair Dye Company" later changed their name to "L'Oreal". The products were not widely used, and by 1950, only 7% of American women dyed their hair. A Clairol champaign during the 1960's raised this figure almost overnight. Showing pictures of women with children and running the line "does she or doesn't she", hair dye was suddenly acceptable. By the end of the decade, 70% of American women were using hair dye - it's up to 75% today

TODAY’S SMILE THE BIRD AND THE WORM

By John Luther

Freddie was a bird, a fat little robin whose mother was a terrible scold. One day, after she had given Freddie's father a terrible tongue-lashing, the abused bird ruffled his feathers and screeched: "You can't talk to me like that! Some day the worm will turn!"

Freddie thought about what his father had said as he went looking for food. Suddenly he saw a worm squirming away from him. "Aha," thought Freddie, "some day the worm will turn. I'll just hop along behind and catch him when he does." But this was no ordinary worm.

It was Willie Worm whose parents had just lectured him about the importance of being honest. "Always go straight, Willie," they said, "you'll never regret it."

So Willie heeded their advice. Instead of turning, he kept going straight, Freddie the robin hopped along behind until he fainted from hunger. Willie overdid it, however. He kept on in a straight line until he fell off the edge of the world.

All of which goes to show:

 a. that you can't take things too literally,

b. you've got to be careful what you say in front of children, and

c. the world is really flat.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Philippians 4:4

Temperament seems to be something that each of us is born with. Some of us have upbeat dispositions, while others play the music of life in a minor key. Yet how we respond to life's trials also affects our overall disposition.

Let's remember that "the joy of the Lord is our strength" (Nehemiah 8:10). Let's also take comfort in the teachings of Jesus, who in John 15:11 said, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

When faced with the choice of self-pity or rejoicing, let's respond with rejoicing.

Rather than complain about the thorns on roses, be thankful for roses among the thorns

TODAY IS…DISTILLED WATER DAY

Distilled water is the purest water available. It's just water - plain old H2O. Everything else is removed when it's converted from liquid to steam during the distillation process. It has no taste, so using it can bring out the flavor of your coffee, tea or food. And it won't leave mineral deposits to clog up your coffee pot. The only problem is... since we are used to drinking water out of the tap, it doesn't taste like water!

TODAY’S SMILE

A man was a passenger on a jet that ran into a very bad storm. The announcement came over the speaker, "We shall not be serving beverages at this time due to the turbulence. Please be sure your seat belt is fastened."

Ominous thunder could be heard above the plane's engines and they experienced sudden drops, as the plane was bounced around by the strong winds. Even though he was an experienced traveler, the man was as disturbed and fearful as those around him.

Then he looked across the aisle and saw a little girl who was calmly reading a book. She seemed to be absolutely unafraid of the storm, for she was totally immersed in what she was reading. The man could not believe what he was seeing.

After the plane had safely landed at its destination and they were taxiing to the gate, he leaned across the aisle and asked the little girl why she hadn't been afraid during the storm. She smiled and answered, "My Daddy's the pilot and he's taking me home."

Psalm 23 is a reminder to us that we have the greatest Pilot for life's journey and we are assured that he is safely taking us home. "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" (vs. 6).

The educated. The powerful. The rejected. The sick. The lonely. The wealthy. Who would ever assemble such a crew? All they had in common were their empty hope chests, long left vacant by charlatans and profiteers.

Though they had nothing to offer, they asked for everything: a new birth, a second chance, a fresh start, a clean conscience. And without exception their requests were honored. http://maxlucado.com/

HAPPY MONDAY !!

BACK TO WORK!

Yesterday morning, I woke up to light rain with a chill in the air. It was only 58 degrees here. This whole week shows rain in the forecast, but the temps will get up into the 80’s . I guess we’ll be making our own sunshine for sure.

Our county fair is this week and typically it rains during fair week. DS#5 will be working there all week long, so we’ll be praying that the sun will shine for him a bit. He does his caricature sketches there and will have more mud than customers if it’s raining.

In tribute to his genius, electric lights in the U.S. were dimmed for one minute on October 21, 1931, a few days after his death.

"Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you, nor is it too far away. No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe.

Deuteronomy 30:11, 14

It's very easy to say that you believe. It can be a lot tougher to actually follow through and show it. However, if we are going to allow our lives to be ones where the power of God is able to be felt, then we need to turn over the reins to God and allow the Almighty to show us how to live.

We need to turn the reins over and allow the Almighty to show us how to follow through.

HAPPY SUNDAY !!

We had a busy day here yesterday and I enjoyed the visit with my DS#1 and his family. The grand’babes’ all head back to school this coming week and they are excited about it. I’m not sure what DDIL#1 will do with that free time and no children at home, but I’m sure she’ll think of something!

We got to have dinner with DD and her hubby and DS#5 and his wife. It was great to have at least that much of my family together. They are all so busy and time rarely gives us much of chance to do so.

Today is my R&R day once again.

After church, I’ve got a few things to finish up around here to get ready for the new work week ahead, but otherwise it should be a quiet day.

I hope you all can find some time for a little R & R too !

TODAY IS…SPICY FOODS DAY

The spices in the hot foods we eat are oily. And, we all know that oil and water don't mix. So, what can you do to cool down a hot mouth? Try one of these... Eat bread - it will absorb the oily spices. Drink milk - it contains "casein" that binds the spices and carries them away.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Aviation Day, always on Orville Wright’s birthday. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, August 19, 1871

Today is Black Cow Day, marking creation of the first "black cow" root beer float on this day in 1893 in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Frank Wisner, owner of Cripple Creek Brewing, was the creator

Today is Snuffleupagus's birthday. The big hairy thing on Sesame Street. His first name is Aloysius, but most call him Mr. Snuffleupagus. He has a sister named Alice and his grandmother lives in Cincinnati. His friends call him Snuffy. His best friend is Big Bird, but he also has a friend named Rosalyn. Snuffy's favorite foods are cabbage and spaghetti.

1856 - Gail Borden of Brooklyn, NY patented his process for condensed milk. You’ve heard of Borden’s condensed milk ... “The milk from contented cows.” This slogan was used in one of the great American advertising campaigns. The familiar flat- topped cans of Borden’s condensed milk are still available, as are Borden’s ice cream, cheese and other products -- all with the seal of approval by Borden’s famous mascot, Elsie, the cow.

1883: Gabrielle Chanel was born in France. "Coco" created the perfume Chanel #5.

TODAY’S SMILE

A newly married woman insisted on going to the California desert so she could be near her soldier husband. The only place the couple could find to live was a rundown shack near an Indian village.

The daytime heat was unbearable-105 degrees in the shade. The dry wind blew constantly, covering everything with dust. None of the Indians spoke English. The young wife was miserable. Then she learned that her husband was going deeper into the desert for 2 weeks.

So she wrote her mother and asked if she could come home. In her mother's reply were these words: "Two men looked through prison bars; one saw mud, the other saw stars." As the woman read those lines over and over, she decided to change.

She would look for the stars. She set out to make friends with the Indians. When they saw her genuine interest, they taught her weaving and pottery. She learned their culture. Then she began to study the desert itself-its cacti, Joshua trees, and seashells left behind by the sands of an ocean floor.

Not only did she survive, she became known as an expert on the area and later published a book about it.

Are you in an unbearable, inescapable situation? Do you have a negative attitude? Like Joseph or this wife, you can change. Look at the situation positively and make the best of it with the help of God.

Who knows? You might end up writing a book.

TODAY’S WORD

 masticate \MAS-tih-kayt\, transitive verb:

1. To grind or crush with or as if with the teeth in preparation for swallowing and digestion; to chew; as, "to masticate food."

2. To crush or knead (rubber, for example) into a pulp.

intransitive verb: 1. To chew food.

In 1820, Thomas Hancock invented a machine that could masticate, mix and soften rubber.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I Peter 5:8

The Bible teaches us that the devil is alive and well and roaming the earth Make no mistake, you have to be alert! The devil can say, "Come on, try it. What can it hurt?" But when you take time to pray about it first, you'll not lose the battle by accepting that temptation.

HAPPY SATURDAY !!

Today, DS#1 and family will be coming in, They won’t be here til around 11 so I have plenty of time to get some things done around the house before they arrive

It’s supposed to be in the low 70’s here today. We had a nice front blow some cooler air to us last night. A very nice relief from all the hot muggy weather we’ve been having.

Next week is our county fair and DS#5 will be working there doing his caricature sketches all week. The following week school begins so he’ll be back to his real job then.

We got a little remodeling done here on the home front this week. The garage has been sided and we have new garage doors too. It was getting in pretty bad shape and now it looks like new.

Next week I am having a new kitchen floor put in. That will make it look really nice too. It seems there is just never an end to fixing up when you have an old house.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…MOOT POINT DAY

During the Middle Ages, people argued with battle axes instead of words. If they could agree to discuss something at a meeting, the meeting was called a "mod". Moot is just an updated version of that old English word. A moot (meeting) point was a question that was open to debate. In the 1800s, people started to use the word to mean “of no significance or relevance.” Today, a moot point, no matter how long you discuss it, is considered something that has no practical value.

TODAY’S SMILE

A walk with my boys got cut short the other day. We had been out for just a little while when suddenly the sky turned gray, the wind picked up, and thunder started to roll in from the clouds.

We headed back quickly as the drops started to fall. The rain chased us down the trail and soon caught us. We tried to hide for a moment laughing under a sweet smelling Pine tree, but it was no use.

We were soon soaked to the bone. It didn’t bother us, however. After we got home we dried off and watched happily as the clouds poured some much needed water on the thirsty forest around our home.

A short while later the sun broke through the clouds again and brightened the Earth with its golden glow. I smiled, stepped out on the porch, and let it shine on my face too. I could feel its warmth and smell the wonderful scent of thousands of well watered leaves.

I laughed again while God’s love, joy, and light filled my soul. What a glorious day it had been. I am amazed at how often and in how many ways God is able to touch our hearts, souls, and minds.

Everyday we get new learning, new growth, and new love. Everyday we get new experiences that help us to bring a little more Heaven into our lives.

Everyday God finds new ways to enlighten us no matter how cloudy our world may seem. He used that wonderful, wet walk the other day to remind me that life isn’t only sunny days. Just like nature sometimes we need to get rained on a bit in order to grow.

He also reminded me that the best way to handle anything in life is with simple humor and joy. The sound of laughter goes equally well with a delightful walk in the summer sunshine and with a brisk run through the rain in soaked clothes.

He reminded me most of all, though, that no matter how long the storms of life may last the sun will always come out again. Have a glorious day then and remember that God is always with you in the sunshine and in the rain.

TODAY’S SMILE

A young couple, very much in love, were getting married in church. However, Sue the wife was very nervous about the big occasion and so the vicar chose one verse that he felt would be a great encouragement to them.

The verse was 1 John 4:18 which says: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”

Rather unwisely, the vicar asked the best man to read it out and to say that the vicar had felt that this was a very apt verse for Sue and that he would be preaching on it later in the service.

However the best man was not a regular churchgoer. And so he did not know the difference between John’s Gospel and the First Letter of John. So he introduced his reading by saying that the vicar felt was a very apt verse for Sue.

But he read John 4:18, which says, “You have five husbands and the one that you now have is not your husband.”

TODAY’S REFLECTION

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Philippians 1:3

One of the most precious gifts God has given us is the ability to remember. There are plenty of hurts and disappointments in life that we should forget. But good memories become a treasure chest of priceless reminders of relationships shared and joys experienced.

Paul felt that way about his time spent with the church in Philippi. His ability to remember his friends in Philippi brought him great comfort as he awaited trial in Rome, prompting him to joyfully pray for them. You could never have convinced him that comfort was found in being able to forget, because he rejoiced in being able to remember.

God gives us cherished memories Never let today’s burden erase yesterday’s blessing

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

‘CAT’ NIGHTS BEGIN

The term "Cat Nights" harks back to a rather obscure Irish legend concerning witches and the belief that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time, August 17, she couldn't regain her human form.

This bit of folklore also led to the idea that a cat has nine lives. Since August is a "yowly" time for cats, this may have prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl.

Along with all that, we have DD and her hubby getting ready to move and DS#6 called last night to say they’ve found a house to buy and will be making an offer on it. Busy, busy month for sure.

TODAY IS…BRATWURST FESTIVAL DAY

Every August, there's a 2 day celebration commemorating Bratwurst in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Bratwurst is a big, fat sausage of German origin. In the U.S., you'll usually find it made of a pork and spices, severd on a bun and topped with sauerkraut. Over in Germany, it's made with different kinds of meat, but usually veal. THE WEIGHTIER FACTS OF LIFE

A diet is a weigh of life.

It's not the minutes spent at the table that put on weight, it's the seconds.

Sweets are the destiny that shapes our ends.

Diets are for people who are thick and tired of it.

The toughest part of a diet isn't watching what you eat. It's watching what other people eat.

A diet is when you have to go to some length to change your width.

People go to Weight Watchers to learn their lessens.

A diet is what you go on when not only can't you fit into the store's dresses, you can't fit into the dressing room.

noun: 1. A person invested with full power to transact any business; especially, an ambassador or diplomatic agent with full power to negotiate a treaty or to transact other business.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Honey is good for you, my children, and it tastes sweet. Wisdom is like honey for your life – if you find it, your future is bright.

Proverbs 24:13-14

We know that life isn't always fair. Just as the sun doesn't shine every day and clouds bring storms our way, life can bring some harsh weather.

Wisdom can be for us the sugar that helps us take whatever life brings Unless you know how to use the knowledge you have gained, you can still act foolishly. I know men and women who haven't even finished high school, yet their commonsense astounds me. And the longer I know them, the more I realize how much of their wisdom comes from God.

They have listened eagerly to the preaching and teaching of God's Word. But what is most important, they have applied these principles to their lives and they have acted wisely on what they have learned.
