TODAY'S THOUGHT

Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.

Edmund Burke

TODAY’S ACTION

Go out of your way for someone, but do it quietly without the need for recognition.

 TODAY’S QUOTE

If we as Christians can purpose in our hearts to be kind and loving in all that we do and put away a condemning spirit, and learn the feat of the Lord, then surely the light of Christ will be able to shine in our disbelieving world, and restoration and revival will take root in the lives we touch on a daily basis.

Barbara Johnson

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!

OVER THE HUMP DAY!

We had a pretty hot day here yesterday and today is supposed to be hotter yet. The thermometer in the shade said 93 degrees when I got home last evening. We’ll see what it says tonight.

Their isn’t much news to tell about. Things are pretty quiet here and that’s probably a good thing. The highlight of my day was sitting on the patio for a little bit in the evening watching our hummers play and listening to the chorus Mother Nature has provided. I know there were frogs, crickets and probably a cicada or two singing there hearts out for sure.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

TODAY IS…RASPBERRY PIE DAY

Raspberries were one of the first European plants brought to America. They belong to the rose family and are usually red or purple - although you can also find gold and black. These sweet berries have tiny edible seeds and an intense flavor and aroma. This makes them perfect for flavors and syrups, but their most common use is in preserves and pies. They like to grow in the northern temporate zones - and they like to be eaten everywhere.

RASPBERRY PIE CRISP

1 qt (4 cups) fresh raspberries

 1/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup margarine, softened

1/3 cup flour

1/3 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup rolled oats

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2. Wash the raspberries and put in the bottom of a 9 inch baking pan. If you don't have a deep dish pie pan, use a casserole dish. Sprinkle sugar over the top of the raspberries. 3. In a medium bowl, mix the margarine, flour, brown sugar and oats with the back of a fork until it looks like coarse meal. Sprinkle over the raspberries and sugar. 4. Bake 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve hot or cold. Top with vanilla ice cream if desired.

TODAY’S SMILE

One night during a blackout a man fetched an old paraffin lamp from the attic. It was in a terrible state. It was black, cracked but still worked even though it shed little light. The wick smoked and gave off a foul smell. It was all too much for the man who said to his wife: “It's useless throw it out.” Three weeks later another blackout occurred. This time it was the woman who provided the light.

She produced a beautiful oil lamp and lit it. Its rosy glow lit up the whole room. “That's a lovely lamp” said the husband, “where did you get it?” “That's the lamp you wanted to throw out”, she replied. “Idon't believe it!” he exclaimed. “I saw the potential” she said. “I could see that underneath the layers of dirt there was a beautiful lamp.

There are many situations and indeed people that we push to one side. We fail to see underneath and the great potential that often lies within.

1. A state of balance, equilibrium, or stagnation. 2. Stoppage of the normal flow of a bodily fluid or semifluid.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Love is patient and kind, never jealous or envious...

I Corinthians 13:4

We often read the 13th chapter of Corinthians, which so thoroughly defines love. It is one of the favorite scriptures read at a wedding ceremony. Yet many a Christian marriage suffers because a spouse is overly jealous.

Many a friendship is spoiled because of jealousy. Many a crime is committed because of jealousy Not only does jealousy hurt others, but it hurts you. Jealousy is a cancer that can eat away peace and joy. If you allow it to control you, it can even cause you to become ill.

Take your hurts to our heavenly Father and leave them with him. Then you are able to be patient and kind, true signs of love. And you will be gratified by the love that is returned to you. http://www.dailyguideposts.com

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Ann Landers

TODAY’S ACTION

Realize that in order to discover your true potential, you must help others discover theirs.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Age doesn't always bring wisdom. Sometimes it comes alone.

HAPPY TUESDAY !!

It’s the very last day of July already!! It will be in the upper 80’s today according to the weather people. Yesterday when I got home the thermometer read 90 degrees in the shade. That is very warm for us here in Northern Ohio. Thankfully I have a/c at work and at home.

Work was busy for a Monday. Our company is looking to hire more men as we have so much work to be done. This is a first in a long time. I think I’ll be fine even with the increased work load as I’m often doing some kind of busy work to fill in the time.

The busy work can just wait til winter when there is not much else to do. Most of our work is weather related and we really work when the sun shines.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

TODAY IS…COTTON CANDY DAY

Cotton candy is nothing but sugar, air and a little food coloring! And there is no way to make it without special equipment. You have to melt the sugar and spin it through small holes to make threads. The air cools the threads so they form a fluffy web that sticks to a paper cone. And why does it melt in your mouth? If you mix cotton candy with water, it dissolves right back into sugar.

TODAY’S SMILE

A little boy was helping his father move some books out of an attic into more spacious quarters downstairs. It was important to this little boy that he was helping his dad, even though he was probably getting in the way and slowing things down more than he was actually assisting.

But that boy had a wise and patient father who knew it was more important to work at a task with his young son than it was to move a pile of books efficiently.

Among this man's books, however, were some rather large study books, and it was a chore for the boy to get them down the stairs. As a matter of fact, on one particular load, the boy dropped his pile of books several times.

Finally, he sat down on the stairs and wept in frustration. He wasn't doing any good at all. He wasn't strong enough to carry the big books down a narrow stairway. It hurt him to think he couldn't do this for his daddy.

Without a word, the father picked up the dropped load of books, put them into the boy's arms, and scooped up both the boy and the books into his arms and carried them down the stairs.

And so they continued load after load, both very much enjoying each other's company. The boy carrying the books, and the dad carrying the boy.

HAPPY MONDAY !!

BACK TO WORK AGAIN !

Yesterday sure was a nice day. One of the nicest parts of it was that I got to spend a lot of time with my DD. We don’t get to get together much any more and I miss that. She is always busy with work and school and their weekends are always busy with camping or traveling somewhere .

The shower was super nice and the soon to be newly weds got a lot of really nice gifts. Of course I got to be with my Sisters and one of my nieces too and 3 of my aunts and one of my cousins were there. I think a good time was had by all.

It is so exciting for young people just starting out and getting all that new stuff for their home. I know the gifts were appreciated by my nephew and his bride to be, but I think they appreciated our presence just as much as they appreciated the presents. They make a very nice couple.

It is supposed to be in the mid to upper 80’s and sunny all week. It’s a blessing that we got quite a bit of rain last week, so now with the sunshine everything in the gardens and yards should be growing quite well.

TODAY IS…DEVILED EGG DAY

What's a picnic without deviled eggs? These little delights are always the first to disappear from any table. And we all know somebody who is famous for their deviled eggs. So, where did they get their name? It's because they are always made with mustard!

FAMOUS DEVILED EGG RECIPE

6 eggs

2 tablespoons mayonnaise, sour cream or plain yogurt

3/4 teaspoon yellow mustard

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice or pickle juice

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

Paprika

1. Place eggs in a cold pan of water. Bring the water to a boil. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and turn off the heat. Let the eggs sit for 30 minutes to cook. Put the pan in the sink and run cold water over the eggs before peeling to keep the shells from sticking. 2. Cut the eggs in half lengthwise and take out the yolk with a small spoon. Place the egg yolks in a bowl and the whites on a plate. 3. Mash the yolks with fork. Stir in the remaining ingredients until well blended. Refill the whites, using about 1 tablespoon of yolk mixture for each egg half. Sprinkle with paprika and chill to blend the flavors.

Note: I use the mayo and don’t use the pickle or lemon juice

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Cheesecake Day

Today is Paperback Day, marking the start of the paperback book revolution with publication of Penguin #1, Ariel, A Life of Shelley by Andre Maurois in London this date in 1935. Books had been published with soft covers in Leipzig, Germany, as early as 1841, but never really caught on.

1898 - Scientific American carried the first magazine automobile ad. The Winton Motor Car Company of Cleveland, OH invited readers to “Dispense with a Horse.”

1956 - The phrase “In God We Trust” was adopted as the U.S. national motto

1965: U.S. President Lyndon Johnson signed legislation creating a health-care program for the elderly called "Medicare." It became effective the following year.

1998 - A world-record Powerball jackpot of $295.7 million was won by a group of 13 machinists who worked together in Westerville, Ohio. The group chose the cash option, and received a lump-sum payment of $161.5 million dollars

TODAY’S SMILE

I once told a man that I no longer voted. He responded by telling me this: The choice of whether I voted or not waswhy he waded through rice paddies, toted guns, and fought battles. It wasn't long afterward that I began to vote again.

I once told a man a lie. He responded by telling me this: All of the decisions that he made were based upon the words that I spoke. I have long since told the truth

I once became upset over a gift I received, because it wasn't what I wanted. The giver saw the disappointment in my eyes and told me this: He chose the most valuable gift he could find, because he felt I should have it. I am since very joyful over each gift that I receive.

A man once told me a secret which I quietly whispered in another friend's ear. The man told me this, after hearing his own secret repeated. The reason he told me the secret was because he trusted me, not my friend. I no longer take trust so lightly.

I once gave a gift to a friend and she cried. I told her it was just a small gift I had found. Her response was that it was not the gift, it was that I had thought of her. I now give gifts often.

The shiny coin was not to be mine, so I had been told. But on my way out the door, it found its way in my hand. When it was discovered that I had stolen the coin, I was quietly taken aside. The owner of the coin told me this. Integrity is given with a choice. I have since chosen to stand with integrity.

Once I told a man of all of my dreams. He smiled warmly and even chuckled then asked if I ever planned on living any of them. I now choose the spending of my days very differently.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it?

Isaiah 43:19

Have you ever thought about how many times you do the same chore day after day? It is possible to feel as if you are in a rut and you see no way out of it

Norman Vincent Peale suggested three ways to break out of this dull routine, if it is causing stress:

• Change your pace. Find new ways to do the job. Take time out to rest and do something different for a few minutes.

• Seek the zest in life. Look for the bright and beautiful things around you. Your baby begins to walk. You find a $10 bill you didn't know you had. A dear friend comes by for a visit. Do you perceive the new things God is doing in your life?

• Forget yourself. Take time to do something for someone you love, someone with whom you work or even a total stranger. When you help someone else, you will find joy filling your heart and forcing out the doldrums.

• (And I would add one more:) Thank the Lord!

When you begin to thank the Lord for health, a home, loving friends and family and other blessings, you'll begin to see the new things God is doing in your life

Lord, help me turn any dull rut into your path that is lined with sunshine and guide me to help others to find that same path.

Amen

HAPPY SUPER SATURDAY !!

I hope you all are enjoying a slow start this Saturday morning. It’s always nice to have the weekend to get all those things done that we can’t do during the week. I’ve got lots to do, but don’t know just how much will actually be accomplished.

Sometimes when there is so much, it’s hard to know where to start. I won’t dilly dally around trying to decide, I’ll just pick the most important and go from there.

One of the important things I do every day is pray. I’ve been praying for a friend’s great granddaughter and have asked you all to pray too. I received this picture of her recently and wanted to share it with you

She is now sucking her thumb which is a very good sign they say. She is doing much better but is still in the hospital and still needs those prayers.

In humility [correct] those who are in opposition.

2 Timothy 2:25

Caring for people can be risky. Paul described what it takes to help those who, in perilous times, have wandered from the path of truth.

He offers no ingenious device for helping those who are a danger to themselves and others (2 Tim. 2:23,25). Instead, he reminds us that when it comes to caring for the minds and hearts of others, we can’t rely on human ingenuity and muscle.

What we really need is the wisdom of God. Without being quarrelsome or arrogant, the Lord’s servant must use gentleness and patience (v.24).

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

JULY 27TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.

Albert Einstein

TODAY’S ACTION

Make someone's day. Tell them how much you appreciate them.

TODAY’S QUOTE

The way to achieve inner peace is to finish the things we have started. Today I finished 2 bags of potato chips and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.

HAPPY FINALLY FRIDAY!

The end of a long work week has come once more. I’m not sure why it seemed so long, but it was for me. So I’m really looking forward to the weekend.

As it is the middle of summer and my Christmas decorations are still in the basement sitting around waiting to be put away, I stopped on my way home from work and bought two of those large plastic tubs with lids on them. Maybe this weekend I’ll put some stuff away.

Slowly but surely I’ll be caught up on things. In case you wondered, slowly is the key word to that statement.

More rain in the forecast here today and tomorrow, so I’ll be making my own sunshine for sure!

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…BUGS BUNNY DAY

Bugs first said, "What's up, Doc?" in a cartoon called 'A Wild Hare', directed by Tex Avery and released by Warner Bros. in 1940. Avery (from Texas) wanted to call him Jack Rabbit, but he was finally named "Bugs" - the nickname of another cartoon director. Food companies begged to have him chew on celery or brocolli, but carrots were always the trademark of the "waskely wabbit". A recent survey ranks him as the most popular animated character in the world today

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Tonight is Over the Moon Night, the night each year when legend says cows get really jumpy

Today is National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. Three years of fighting ended on this day in 1953

57 Varieties Day - H. J. Heinz Company, maker of catsup with at least 57 varieties of tomatoes, was incorporated on this day in 1900

1921: Scientists at the University of Toronto isolated the drug insulin for the first time

1974 - John Denver’s biggest hit song reached the top of the Billboard singles chart. Annie’s Song, written for his wife, became the most popular song in the U.S. Denver had three other #1 songs: Sunshine on My Shoulders, Thank God I’m a Country Boy and I’m Sorry

1995 - The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. opened to the public on the 42nd anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War. U.S. President Bill Clinton and President Kim Young Sam of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) dedicated the memoirial. A plaque at the flagstaff reads, “Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered a call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.”

TODAY’S SMILE

Some years ago, on a hot summer day in south Florida, a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.

His father working in the yard saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could. Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made ! a U-tur n to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him.

From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator. Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal. And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, 'But look at my arms. I have great scars on ! my arms , too. I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go.'

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go.

In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you. The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead.

The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very, very grateful.

He did not and will not ever let you go. Please pass this on to those you love. God has blessed you, so that you can be a blessing to others. You just never know where ! a person is in his/her life and what they are going through.

Never judge another persons scars, because you don't know how they got them.

TODAY’S WORD

serendipity \ser-uhn-DIP-uh-tee\, noun:

The faculty or phenomenon of making fortunate accidental discoveries

The word serendipity was formed by English author Horace Walpole (1717-1797) from Serendip (also Serendib), an old name for Sri Lanka, in reference to a Persian tale, The Three Princes of Serendip, whose heroes "discovered, quite unexpectedly, great and wonderful good in the most unlikely of situations, places and people."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

But we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit,

Corinthians 3:18

Today's scripture reminds us that God is in the process of changing us, day by day, to his image, if we are ready and willing to be changed. We have to admit our weakness before a change can be made.

We are filled with pride and don't like to admit our faults, but when we are willing to change, the Holy Spirit will change us from glory to glory.

JULY 26TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Louisa May Alcott

TODAY’S ACTION

Encourage courage. Praise someone for going after his or her dreams.

TODAY’S QUOTE

Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

We had a mixture of sunshine and rain yesterday. The rain was mostly in the morning so I was able to get out for a bit and watch those crazy hummingbirds at the feeders again in the evening. There are quite a few now and we’ve notice that even though the feeders have at least 4 openings , only one bird is allowed to drink from it at a time.

They chase each other around just like they were trying to keep it all for themselves. They also visit the Sweet Peas, the Coral Bells and the Rose of Sharon Blossoms, but seem to prefer the feeders.

After work I managed to get about a garbage bag of weeds cleared away. They are growing just fine in my flower beds whether anything else is or not.

Today is the dentist appointment. I supposed they will start with the cleaning I need and then work on to the fillings. I’m dreading all this of course.

Take good care all !

TODAY IS…SUGAR CANE DAY

Sugar cane is a giant grass that grows in warm, moist climates and stores sugar in its stalk. This natural sugar is ground out of the cane as juice, boiled into syrup and spun into crystals. The end result is raw sugar that is a tan color and very coarse. Raw sugar is not used in food. It is shipped to another refinery to be washed and filtered to remove the color and any leftover plant material. It is then crystallized, dried and packaged to land at your nearest grocery store.

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is Feed the Country Ducks Day, a day to drive into the country and find a pond with ducks you can feed. Don’t forget insecticide for your shoes and socks to keep the chiggers away

On this day in 1775, a postal system was established by the 2nd Continental Congress of the United States. The first Postmaster General was the same gentleman who graces the U.S. $100 bill and who flew a kite with a key attached in a thunderstorm -- Benjamin Franklin. Mr. Franklin was paid $1,000 a year for his job as Postmaster General.

Today is National Coffee Milkshake Day

1788 - New York, the 11th state, entered the United States of America this day. New York City, one of the most famous cities in the world, was once the capital of the Empire State, but that ended in 1796. Albany, once called Fort Orange, has been the capital of the State ofNew York ever since. The beautiful rose is the official state flower with the colorful bluebird taking the honorable title of New York’s state bird.

1942 - Judy Garland joined Gene Kelly to record For Me and My Gal for Decca Records. The song is featured in the movie of the same name.

1968: Singer Jeannie C. Riley recorded "Harper Valley P.T.A." The Tom. T. Hall song skyrocketed to #1 and became the country music Single of the Year.

TODAY’S SMILE

Some years ago, near a seldom used trail in the Amargosa Desert in California, there stood a rundown hut. Nearby was a well, the only source of water for miles around. Attached to the pump was a tin baking powder can with a message inside, written in pencil on a sheet of brown wrapping paper.

This was the message . . .

This pump is all right as of June, 1932. I put a new sucker washer into it and it ought to last five years. But the washer dries out and the pump has got to be primed. Under the white rock I buried a bottle of water, out of the sun and cork end up. There's enough water in it to prime this pump but not if you drink some first. Pour in about 1/4 and let her soak to wet the leather. Then pour in the rest medium fast and pump for all your worth. You'll git water.

The well never has ran dry. Have faith. When you git watered up, fill the bottle and put it back like you found it for the next feller.

SIGNED: Desert Pete

P.S. Don't go drinking the water first! Prime the pump with it and you'll git all you can hold. And next time you pray, remember that God is like the pump. He has to be primed.

I've given my last dime away a dozen times to prime the pump of my prayers, and I've fed my last beans to a stranger while saying Amen. It never failed yet to git me an answer.

You got to git your heart fixed to give before you can be give to.

The story of Desert Pete was Track 1 on the 'A' side of the Kingston Trio's album "Sunny Side!" (Capitol Records T-1935, released 1963). The refrain went like this:

You've got to prime the pump,

You must have faith and believe.

You've got to give of yourself

Before you're worthy to receive.

Drink all the water you can hold,

Wash your face to your feet,

But leave the bottle full for others

-- Thank you kindly, Desert Pete.

TODAY’S WORD

riposte \rih-POST\, noun:

1. A quick thrust given after parrying an opponent's lunge in fencing. 2. A quick and effective reply by word or act.

intransitive verb: 1. To make a riposte.

When she told him how much she hated being called an old trout, he'd riposte: "The trout is the most beautiful of fish."

Angela Carter

Riposte derives from Italian risposta, "an answer," from rispondere, "to answer," from Latin respondere, "to promise in return, to answer," from re- + spondere, "to promise

TODAY’S REFLECTION

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Hebrews 10:35-36

We often start a project with great enthusiasm. But when obstacles get in our path, we let worry and fear of failure keep us from pushing ahead and we quit. You can't go through life quitting everything.

If your project is worthy, you have to stick to it. Your confidence can be weakened, if you begin to make excuses or start blaming someone else for your project's setback When you trust the Lord and you know that your project would be approved by him, press on!

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

Fresh grass clippings make excellent garden mulch. (Don't bunch clippings too heavily around young plants, as the grass can burn tender stalks.)

JULY 25TH, 2007

TODAY'S THOUGHT

In the hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet.

Albert Schweitzer

TODAY’S ACTION

Appreciate the moments that you have today

TODAY’S QUOTE

Avoiding the phrase “I don’t have time...” will soon help you to realize that you do have the time needed for just about anything you choose to accomplish in life

Bo Bennett

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

We got some very nice rain yesterday and may get some more today. It’s very unusual for me to be saying that is a good thing, but we’ve been unusually dry here .

Most of the time I’d be looking for the sunshine, not the rain.

Today is one of the busiest days of the week for me at work. That too is a good thing as the time passes faster. Yesterday sorta drug by doing all that data entry stuff.

25 WORDS

God, I thank You for today, for the ways You will bless me, and for the ways that I will serve others in Your name

TODAY IS…PIPE DREAMS DAY

During the 1800s, opium was heavily imported to Europe from Asia. This hallucinogenic drug wasn't illegal at that time and was widely used in some literary circles in England. The opium was smoked in a pipe and usually produced strange visions. The creative writers called these visions "pipe dreams". Today the term is used for farfetched ideas that probably aren't going to happen

TODAY’S TRIVIA

Today is National Hot Fudge Appreciation Day

Crooner Dean Martin and comedian Jerry Lewis staged their first show as a team this day in 1946 at Club 500 in Atlantic City, NJ. Actually, the two had met while performing -- separately -- at the Glass Hat in New York City and decided to try an ad-lib act together. The rest is entertainment history

1871 - Seth Wheeler of Albany, NY patented perforated toilet paper.

1899: Stuart Hine was born in England. While serving as a missionary to Ukraine, he wrote English words to a traditional Swedish hymn, which is sung today as "How Great Thou Art."

TODAY’S SMILE

ADULT vs CHILD VISIONS

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard.

My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away.

My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm so I sit self consciously and listen.

My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don't know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.

My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray I say Thee and Thou and grant me this, give me that.

My kids say, "Hi God!!! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle, I step around it. I see muddy shoes and clothes and dirty carpets.

My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from? No wonder God loves the little children!!

TODAY’S WORD

confabulation \kon-FAB-yuh-lay-shuhn\, noun:

1. Familiar talk; easy, unrestrained, unceremonious conversation. 2. (Psychology) A plausible but imagined memory that fills in gaps in what is remembered.

Confabulation comes from Late Latin confabulatio, from the past participle of Latin confabulari, "to talk together," from con-, "together, with" + fabulari, "to talk." It is related to fable, "a fiction, a tale," and to fabulous, "so incredible or astonishing as to resemble or suggest a fable."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Simon answered, 'Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.

Luke 5:4

Jesus sat in a fisherman's boat to teach the crowds. Afterward he told the fishermen to let down their nets. They had been working all night and Simon Peter knew that the spot had few fish. Yet he listened to Jesus' encouraging words and the catch was tremendous

When God sends you in a direction that you don't understand, but that seems reasonable, step out in faith. God has a plan for your life and sometimes you are led to opportunities you never expected

TODAY’S ADVICE FROM THE OLD FARMER’S ALMANAC

To prevent moss from forming on a roof, mix up a solution of 2 capfuls of bleach and 1 gallon of water. Apply it to the shingles with a sponge
