GOD’S CAKE

Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this", or "Why did God have to do this to me". Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."

"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers. "Yuck" says her daughter. "How about a couple raw eggs?"

"Gross, Mom!" "Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"

"Mom, those are all yucky!" To which the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder! why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good!

We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.

He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.

I hope your day is a "piece of cake!"

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. .

TODAY’S REFLECTION

The Lord turned to Gideon and said, "Go with your strength and save Israel from the Midianites. I am the one who is sending you." But Gideon answered, "Lord, how can I save Israel from the Midianites? My family group is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least important membr of my family." The Lord answered him, I will be with you. It will seem as if the Midianites you are fighting are only one man.

Judges 6:14-16

Sometimes we try too hard to assemble and polish the perfect tools to serve God. He doesn't need better tools. He's well-equipped to accomplish what needs to be done. And because the battles we face are spiritual, not temporal, the abilities and talents we add to our arsenal aren't necessarily the ones needed.

What God desires is that we trust Him, and give Him what we already hold in our hands.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today is the first day of my 5-day vacation from work. We’ll see how it goes…I’ve got great plans for the house today.

I usually get up early work day or not and then I’m ready to go to bed early too! The other night I noticed it wasn’t fully dark out yet when I went upstairs. I went anyway, I couldn’t stay awake any longer.

It was supposed to be in the 50’s Thursday night, but they say we have a big ‘warm up’ coming our way. It’ll be in the 90’s soon.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS METEOR WATCH DAY

A "shooting star" is a small meteor falling into the Earth's atmosphere. On a clear night, you might see one or two every hour. Very bright meteors are called fireballs, but these are much less common. Large meteors are rare. The impact from one of these was probably responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago

TODAY’S SMILE

Around the corner I have a friend

In this great city that has no end,

Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,

And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friend's face,

For life is a swift and terrible race,

He knows I like him just as well,

As in the days when I rang his bell,

If, we were younger then,

And now we are busy, tired men.

Tired of playing a foolish game,

Tired of trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim" "

Just to show that I'm thinking of him."

But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,

And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner!- yet miles away,

"Here's a telegram sir-".

"Jim died today."

And that's what we get and deserve in the end. Around the corner, a vanished friend.

If you love someone, tell them. Remember always to say what you mean. Never be afraid to express yourself. Take this opportunity to tell someone what they mean to you.

Seize the day and have no regrets. Most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today and are what it's all about anyway.

TODAY’S WORD

quirk • \KWURK\

verb : curve, twist

Did you expect "quirk" to be a noun meaning "a peculiarity of action or behavior"? If so, you're probably not alone; the "peculiarity" sense of the noun "quirk" is commonly known and has been a part of our language since at least 1878.

But "quirk" has long worn other hats in English, too. It has been used as both a noun and a verb since the 16th century. The noun "quirk," which essentially means "a curve, turn, or twist," has named everything from curving pen marks on paper (i.e., flourishes) to witty turns of phrase to the vagaries or twists of fate.

In contemporary English the verb "quirk" is most often used in referring to facial expressions, especially those that involve crooked smiles or furrowed eyebrows.

Samuel told Saul the Lord's instructions, which were to totally destroy everything belonging to the enemy, including all the animals. When Saul came to Samuel claiming to have obeyed God, Samuel answered with today's scripture.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

It may be Thursday on the calendar, but in my heart it is FRIDAY! After today I’m on vacation – 5 glorious days off from work.

Oh, but I do have lots of it planned here. I’m working at home. Tomorrow morning I’ll start with the living room and dining room curtains, windows and woodwork. They need cleaning so badly. I have lots to do here and can only put a small dent in it, but I’m going to make a valiant effort. I’ll be letting you know my progress, ha ha

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way!

TODAY IS…WAFFLE IRON DAY

Waffles were sold on the streets of Paris during the 12th century. They gradually spread across Europe and became very popular in Germany and Holland. It was the Dutch who brought waffles to American during the founding of New Amsterdam (New York City). And yes, the indentions are only to keep syrup from running off the edges

BELGIAN WAFFLES

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 cups milk

3 eggs, separated

2 teaspoons vanilla

pinch of salt

fruit or jam

whipped cream or cool whip

1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, oil, milk and egg yolks. 2. In a medium bowl, beat the egg whites until they stand in soft peaks. Fold the egg whites into the batter. Don't overmix! 3. Measure out 1/2 cup (or the amount recommended for your waffle iron). Pour the batter into a hot waffle iron. Cook for about 2 minutes. Repeat for the rest of the batter. This should make 8 waffles. 4. Top with your favorite fruit or jam (raspberry and strawberry are the most popular). Add whipped cream or cool whip and serve hot.

( I think I’ll make some tomorrow – to celebrate my vacation day !)

TIPS FOR STAYING YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop;" the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things. When the children are young, that is all that you can afford. When they are in college, that is all that you can afford. When you are on retirement, that is all that you can afford!

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be alive while you are alive, don't put out a mailbox on the highway of death and just wait in residence for your mail.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country, but not to guilt country.

10. Tell the people you love, that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER,

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

TODAY’S WORD

festinate • \FESS-tuh-nut

Festinate is one among many in the category of words whose first recorded use is in the works of Shakespeare. Perhaps the Bard knew about "festinatus," the Latin predecessor of "festinate," or was familiar with the Latin proverb "festina lente"—"make haste slowly."

TODAY’S REFLECTION

And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

God has given you the gift of his Spirit to encourage and guide you. If you have a vision that will bring joy to others and good to the world, cling to that vision! HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

The storms and rain by-passed us on Tuesday, It got a little warmer and humid. Today will probably be more of the same. Friday is supposed to be sunny, but there is a chance for rain most of the weekend.

We’ll hope that the chance goes somewhere that needs the rain.

TODAY IS…PAUL BUNYAN DAY

The legend of Paul Bunyan started with stories told by men in lumber camps. He was supposed to be a giant lumberjack who performed incredible feats - such as scooping out the Great Lakes to get water for his blue ox, Babe. The stories probably date back to the 1800's. They appeared in newspapers in the early 1900's and turned Paul into part of American folklore.

Skip The Nursing Home!

With the average cost for a Nursing Home per day reaching $188.00, there is a better way when we get old and feeble. I have ascertained that I can get a nice room at the Holiday Inn for around $65.00...that leaves $123.00 a day for beer, food (room service), laundry, gratuities and special TV movies.

They have a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, washer, dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap.

Super 8 is somewhat more economical and they have a free breakfast, though you usually have to walk next door for lunch and dinner. There may be a bit of a wait to get that first floor room, but that's OK, it takes months to get into decent nursing homes.

There is the Senior Bus, the Handicap bus (if you fake a decent limp), a Church bus or van, cabs, and even a regular bus. For a change of lunch take the Airport Bus and eat at one of the fast food cafe's there.

The Inn has security, and if someone sees you drop over, they will call an ambulance.

What more can you ask for?

As a bonus, they all have AARP and other Senior discounts.

So: When I reach the Golden age, help me keep my grin. Just check my old rickety self into the nearest Holiday Inn!

Smoke tinted glasses were invented before 1430 in China. But, they weren't for sun protection. Judges wore them in court so nobody could see their eyes and guess their opinion before a verdict was declared. Sunglasses as we know them today are a 20th century phenomenon. THE BLUE RIBBON

A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in high school by telling them the difference they each made. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. First she told each of them how they had made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon imprinted with gold letters, which read, "Who I Am Makes a Difference."

Afterwards the teacher decided to do a class project to see what kind of impact recognition would have on a community. She gave each of the students three more ribbons and instructed them to go out and spread this new acknowledgment ceremony. Then they were to follow up on the results to see who honored whom and report back to the class in about a week.

One of the boys in the class went to a junior executive in a nearby company and honored him for helping him with his career planning. He gave him a blue ribbon and put it on his shirt. Then he gave him two extra ribbons and said, "We're doing a class project on recognition, and we'd like you to go out, find somebody to honor, give them a blue ribbon, then give them the extra blue ribbon so they can acknowledge a third person to keep this acknowledgment ceremony going. Then please report back to me and tell me what happened.

Later that day the junior executive went in to see his boss, who had been noted, by the way, as being kind of a grouchy fellow. He sat his boss down and he told him that he deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior executive asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon and would he give him permission to put it on him.

His surprised boss said, "Well, sure." The junior executive took the blue ribbon and placed it right on his boss's jacket above his heart. As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, "Would you do me a favor? Could you take this extra ribbon and pass it on by honoring somebody else? The young boy who first gave me the ribbons is doing a project in school and we want to keep this, recognition ceremony going and find out how it affects people.

That night the boss came home to his 14-year-old son and sat him down. He said, "The most incredible thing happened to me today. I was in my office and one of the junior executives came in and told me he admired me and gave me a blue ribbon for being a creative genius. Imagine. He thinks I'm a creative genius. Then he put this blue ribbon that says 'Who I Am Makes A Difference' on my jacket above my heart. He gave me an extra ribbon and asked me to find somebody else to honor.

As I was driving home tonight, I started thinking about whom I would honor with this ribbon and I thought about you. I want to honor you. My days are really hectic and when I come home I don't pay a lot of attention to you. Sometimes I scream at you for not getting good enough grades in school and for your bedroom being a mess, but somehow tonight, I just wanted to sit here and, well, just let you know that you do make a difference to me. Besides your mother, you are my life. You're a great kid and I love you!"

The startled boy started to sob and sob, and he couldn't stop crying. Hiswhole body shook. He looked up at his father and said through his tears, "I was planning on committing suicide tomorrow, Dad, because I didn't think you loved me. Now I know you care. This is the happiest day I've known."

The boss went back to work a changed man. He was no longer a grouch but made sure to let all his employees know that they made a difference. The junior executive helped several other young people with career planning and never forgot to let them know that they made a difference in his life... one being the bosses son.

And the young boy and his classmates learned a valuable lesson.

Who you are DOES make a difference.

If you have anyone who means a lot to you, I encourage you to send this message to them and let them know. You never know what kind of difference a little encouragement can make to a person

Remember that! I GIVE YOU A BLUE RIBBON!

Who you are makes a difference, and I wanted you to know that!

TODAY IS…HARP MUSIC DAY

The harp is one of the oldest stringed instruments. They can be seen in Egyptian tomb paintings and are part of many legends and folklore. During the middle ages, they were about 28" high - small enough to be carried around by troubadours as they traveled the countryside. By the 17th century, they were much larger instuments with a stronger sound and more strings. Harps are regaining popularity today as people rediscover the unique sound of Celtic music.

TODAY'S THOUGHT

The greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it.

Moliere

TODAY’S ACTION

When fear comes, counter it with an affirmation of faith.

TODAY’S QUOTE

When worry is present, trust cannot crowd its way in.

 Billy Graham

HAPPY SUNDAY!

One more day of sunshine here before the rain moves in again .  The weather map shows rain on all sides of us moving our way.  Many roads in our area were still closed today due to flooding and our local park where they are supposed to have fireworks for the 4th of July is closed indefinitely.

My sister and I took a walk to see the falls (we actually do have some beautiful ones that are on our river that runs through our town) Friday evening and I have to say the force of that great mass of water could power a few cities right now.  I've never seen them so big and powerful.

I've procratinated over taking my walks and exercising more this summer.  That is actually the first one of the season.  Hopefully there will be many more this summer.  Next time I'll take my camera so that you all can see what I'm talking about.

Have a great day all !  Another wonderful one on the Way !

Please pray for God's protection of our troops and HIS wisdom for their commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in

your loving hands. Protect them as they

protect us. Bless them and their families

for the selfless acts they perform for us

in our time of need. I ask this in the

name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior

God Bless you all !

TODAY IS… FRIED OKRA DAY

Okra comes from a large plant thought to be of African origin. It grows in warm climates and is in the same family as hibiscus and cotton plants. It's a good source of Vitamin A and often used to thicken soups or stews. People who don't like the slick texture of okra might love it fried in cornmeal - a favorite dish in the South.

1 lb. fresh okra

1 large green tomato

1 medium onion

1 clove garlic

1 jalapeno pepper (optional)

2 eggs

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/2 cup milk

1 cup cornmeal

1/4 cup vegetable Oil

1. Cut off ends of okra and slice into 1/4" pieces. Chop up the tomato, onion, garlic and jalapeno pepper. In a large bowl, toss all the vegetables with a couple of forks to mix. 2. In a separate bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Mix well by hand. Pour this mixture over the vegetables and toss to coat. 3. Gradually add the cornmeal. Continue tossing the vegetables until everything is evenly mixed - it will look like a gooey mess! 4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot. Spoon the mixture evenly into the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover and fry until the bottom is browned (about 10 to 15-minutes). Turn the mixture over and continue to fry uncovered for 5 to 8-minutes. 5. Cover a plate with paper towels. Dump the fried vegetablesonto the paper towels to drain the excess oil. Serve hot.

teleological • \tel-ee-uh-LAH-jih-kul

adjective : exhibiting or relating to design or purpose especially in nature

What is the true purpose of life's voyage? wrote John R. Illingworth in 1907, posing what he termed the great teleological question

A teleologist attempts to understand the purpose of something by looking at its results. A teleological philosopher might argue that we should judge whether an act is good or bad by seeing if it produces a good or bad result, and a teleological explanation of evolutionary changes claims that all such changes occur for a definite purpose.

HAPPY SATURDAY!

Our rainy weather has finally cleared up and today we’ll have a beautiful sunny day. So far this week it’s been cool enough to enjoy the fresh air and not have to close the house up and put on the a/c.

I don’t know what I’d do without my weekend off from work. Now a days it seems I have just enough energy to get through 5 days of work and not one day more.

Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS…SWIM A LAP DAY

Swimming is a healthy activity that can be continued over an entire lifetime. Yes, it's good for your heart and lungs, but the other benefits make it worth the effort to get to the pool. It can be a good break from the summer heat, a social outlet with friends, or relaxing recreation for the whole family. Signing up for water aerobics lets you get a good workout with no impact stress on the body. And best of all... it's a great calorie burner. Suit up!

Drinking From My Saucer

By Jimmy Dean

I've never made a fortune

and it's probably too late now

But I don't worry about that much

I'm happy anyhow and as

I go along life's way I

'm reaping better than I sow

I'm drinking from my saucer

'Cause my cup has overflowed

Haven't got a lot of riches

and sometimes the going's tough

But I've got loving ones around me

and that makes me rich enough

I thank God for his blessings

and the mercies He's bestowed

I'm drinking from my saucer

'Cause my cup has overflowed

O, Remember times when things went wrong

My faith wore somewhat thin

But all at once the dark clouds broke

and sun peeped through again

So Lord, help me not to gripe

about the tough rows that I've hoed

I'm drinking from my saucer

'Cause my cup has overflowed

If God gives me strength and courage

When the way grows steep and rough

I'll not ask for other blessings

I'm already blessed enough and may

I never be too busy to help others bear their loads

Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer

'Cause my cup has overflowed

father took his little seven-year-old boy fishing with him one day. They put out the trotline and then went up to the cabin. After an hour they went back down to the river to see if they had caught anything. Sure enough, there were several fish on the line.

"I knew there would be, daddy," said the boy. "How did you know?" asked the father. "Because I prayed about it," said the child. So they baited the hooks again and put out the line and went back to the cabin for supper.

Afterward they went back to the river; again, there were fish on the line.

"I knew it," said the boy. "And how?" asked his father. "I prayed again."

So they put the line back out into the river and went to the cabin. Before bedtime they went down again. This time there were no fish.

"I knew there wouldn't be," said the child. "How did you know?" asked the father. "Because," said the boy, "I didn't pray about it this time."

"And why didn't you?" asked his father. "Because," said the boy, "I remembered that we forgot to bait the hooks."

100 Years Ago in the USA...

The average life expectancy in the United States was forty-seven.

~ Only 14 percent of the homes in the United States had a bathtub.

~ Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

~ There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads.

~ The maximum speed limit in most cities was ten mph.

~ Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the twenty-first most populous state in the Union.

~ The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

~ The average wage in the U.S. was twenty-two cents an hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2500 per year, a veterinarian between $1500 and $4000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5000 per year.

~ More than 95 percent of all births in the United States took place at home.

~ Ninety percent of all U.S. physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."

~ Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee cost fifteen cents a pound.

~ Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

~ Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason, either as travelers or immigrants.

~ The five leading causes of death in the U.S. were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke

~ The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

~ Drive-by-shootings -- in which teenage boys galloped down the street on horses and started randomly shooting at houses, carriages, or anything else that caught their fancy -- were an ongoing problem in Denver and other cities in the West.

~ The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was thirty. The remote desert community was inhabited by only a handful of ranchers and their families.

~ Plutonium, insulin, and antibiotics hadn't been discovered yet. Scotch tape, crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

~ There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

~ One in ten U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

~ Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and the bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."

~ Coca-Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine.

~ Punch card data processing had recently been developed, and early predecessors of the modern computer were used for the first time by the government to help compile the 1900 census.

~ Eighteen percent of households in the United States had at least one full-time servant or domestic.

~ There were about 230 reported murders in the U.S. annually.

Memo from God

To: YOU

Date: TODAY

From: THE BOSS

Subject: YOURSELF

Reference: LIFE

I am God. Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help. If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box.

All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours. Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.

If you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work; think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance; think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose? Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; remember, things could be worse.

You could be one of them!
